Should ACCUPUNCTURE hurt this much???!

Question: It is my sixth session, and I freaking hate acupuncture.

Some of the points can hurt alot. Today was especially bad. The two he put in each foot was causing some sort of muscle spasm (in my foot), and it hurt alot - he eventually ended up taking them out. The ones in the stomach also hurt like hell when he put them in. I am definately going to continue, but man.. it can hurt like hell! (maybe it's just my accupuncturist lacks experience? - It is his 2nd year as an accupuncturist)

I still have faith in him and plan to continue. Opinions?

Acupuncture should NOT hurt at all!!

I have had many, many acupuncture sessions for various ailments, including migraine. I never experienced any discomfort in over twenty years of treatment.

I seriously think that you should change your acupuncturist, NOW.

It seems to me that s/he is not doing it right.

* Please make sure that you Do Not move the part where the needles are in at the time, as that will cause abrasion of the muscle/nerve.

Hope you feel better soon :)

Hmm, when I had acupuncture none of the points hurt. I don't think its supposed to either. If you really want to continue perhaps you should see a different acupuncturist.

Acupuncture should absolutely NOT hurt at all!!
If it gives you pain it is not being done correctly.
You may be able to 'feel' the needles - but it shouldn't cause pain!
You are being harmed - not healed.
Think about it - take heed of these warnings!!

Those people here who say that acupuncture shouldn't hurt have probably gone to an acupuncturist who trained here in the UK. A real Chinese acupuncturist - trained at a TCM university in China should be able to hit your spots bang on. If he or she hits the right spot and if it is indeed a very weak point (hence the reason you need acupuncture) then it should bloody hurt! If it doesn't hurt it means that either the cavity point or acupuncture point isn't sensitive (so you don't need needles in there in the first place) or that the acupuncturist didn't hit the right spot.
I once had such a shock from a needle being insterted into my leg that it made me jump off the couch. It was the strangest experience in my life because I didn't control that jump, it was as if my body just on its own and out of control just jerked off the couch. Yes, it was a properly trained Chinese acupuncturist who couldn't even speak a word of English. These are the ones you should trust.

No. It shouldn't hurt. The most you should feel is a twinge as the needle is adjusted.
I often fall asleep on the table. You REALLY need to get a different accupuncturist!
I've been to many over the years, from students to chinese to jewish. NONE of them hurt. Two were absolutely fantastic.

Nothing hurt when I had accupuncture - done by a general practitioner....
