Why does chicken noodle soup cure the common cold?!

Question: Why and How?

Answers: Why and How?

Its your cells utilizing the nourishment from the soup that allows the immune system to fight the cold more efficiently.

Therefore, its the body that cures itself with the proper nutritional tools.

Age old wisdom: "Let your food be your medicine and your medicine by your food" - Hippocrates

Did you know that garlic, onions or dahlias have a long chain polysaccharide (type of sugar molecule) that blocks the cold virus in its tracks?

Pharmaceuticals know this and are including it in drug research to add to nose sprays. Its called "carbohydrate based therapeutics."

Mosaic... In regard to my snotty e mail... Sorry. Penicillin does NOT kill viruses. It is meant for bacterial infections and the overuse of them has caused flesh eating strep and Toxic Shock Syndrome strep which eat our most powerful antibiotics as nourishment!

People with healthier immune systems fight off Toxic Shock and the Flesh eating virus, thus they recover versus those who simply die.

Also, cells have a life span, like stomach lining cells last 7 to 10 days and red blood cells last 4 months while T cells can last several years... Therefore, no cure for a cold will work right away.

But, let's give credit where credit is due... It is not the chicken soup curing the cold, it is the body curing itself with the proper nutritional tools.

Why?

Since we cannot get these things that nourish or strengthen our immune system without food, we must get them from our diet.

Thus, the imbalance in our Western culture is to mask symptoms when it comes to disease in which the third leading cause of death are medical mistakes from properly prescribed drugs.

I'm not anti drug. Cold medicines have their place for relief.

I got so called "snotty" with my Get your facts straight because your so way off the track.

Your answer demonstrates why people don't question their prescriptions and believe that you catch cancer and that nutrition has nothing to do with it.

Believe me, we are in grave trouble on this earth.

We depend on our farmed foods and if you take a look at our history of agriculture, you would have the epiphany that nutrition is directly connected to disease and a weakened immune system.

Case and point, in 1950, it took two peaches to obtain a serving of natural vitamin a (beta carotin) in one day... Now, it takes 53!

If not, I know that it at least makes me feel relaxed!

Cause Chicken soup likes you to feel better. I bet if Chicken soup was sick, you'd want it to feel better. :/

well its not just chicken noodle soup. any type of broth on the throat when it is tender will cure it.

With a sore throught it is just easeir to swallow a liquid over anything that is a solid.

it doesn't, but it's probably commonly thought to be relaxing and makes you feel better, which in turn allows your body to recuperate faster.

Sorta like how a bandaid is supposed to heal wounds... it doesnt, just protects it from infection so that it can heal faster

It is a comfort food. Since I am a vegetarian, I eat Amy's No Chicken Noodle soup with tofu and vegetable broth. The best!

it doesn't .. when was the last time you had a cold and had chicken soup? did it immediately go away?
If it cured the common cold then doctors would prescribe it instead of penicillin.
ALSO.. chicken soup would be $500 an ounce as opposed to a buck a can.

WOW.. LAURA J just sent me a snotty personal email... I guess she knows it all. No need to be nasty!
