Is there a name for this issue thingy I have?!

Question: I have a "sydrome" thingy where I can't physically swallow pills. I never have.. and if I'm sick enough for medicine, I have to get liquid form.

Even after my baby was born, I had liquid form medication. I have horrible migraines but I physically can't take pills. I don't know what it is but I can't swallow the pill, it just won't go down.

Is there a name for this?

You may have a mild case of dysphagia, see the link below. We take swallowing for granted unless there's a problem, and I sometimes have trouble even swallowing food, usually steak. I have to cut it into tiny pieces but that's okay since I love steak and it just prolongs the process of enjoying it.

There are products that can help with swallowing pills, aside from just cutting them up or hiding them in food. Spray n' swallow has some good testimonials. You spray the pills and not your throat, it makes them easier to swallow.

There's also oraflo, a cup that supposedly makes them easier to swallow.

yeah it is called PHARMACOPHOBIA!!!!
most of them are surprised to learn that they are far from alone in this surprisingly common, although often unspoken, phobia.

There is a Way Out!!!!!

Imagine what your life will be like when you know that you are not "defective". When you can be confident and at ease in situations where you used to feel your phobia. And when you can talk about your former fear symptoms as though you are describing a movie where the character is someone else, not you.
all the best

I was like that for years! You're not alone I swear. I don't know if you're looking for help but this is how I got over mine. I started with simple things like small cut up pieces of meat. I practiced using them. I got maybe one or so down before my tummy was full of water. But what I noticed was when I used a straw it helped the pill go down. I don't know if the water was more focused on that area where the pill was or not, but it helped SO much! Try it. Also try watching tv when doing it, it takes your mind off the fact that you are trying to swallow a pill. I still have problems from time to time, but for the most part I'm good. :) Good luck!!

Try taking a gulp of water FIRST then the pill then a gulp again fast..worked on my kids..could take meds at 4-5 yrs old if needed. Also you might try meditation and biofeedback...you can control the feelings sensations you have with these techniques
