Someone else suggested marijuana or alcohol. I'm sure you already may have thought of those, and since one is illegal and the other is not great for health, I can't advise them anyway.

I like melatonin. It's healthy and you can buy it without a prescription at almost any pharmacy or health food store, or like a GNC or Vitamin Shoppe. It's a synthesized version of a hormone your own body makes when you sleep. Completely aside from being able to help you have a calm and relaxing sleep, without drowsiness in the morning, it is very healthy for the brain and rest of the body. For the health benefits alone, I'd recommend everyone take 1-3mg per night, even if they didn't have sleep problems.

The one thing about melatonin is that, even though it isn't addictive, it may eventually stop working to get you to sleep. Usually that happens after about 3-4 weeks of usage, for me. One way to prevent that is just to skip every other week. I find that works best for me. But, it might keep working for you, and you could be increasing your lifespan, if some studies are right.

weed.

mixed with alcohol.

if you give me a thumbs down. your an idiot. im answering the question.

make sure not to get addicted to sleeping pills . google for side effects ! it is the first sign of depression. or you are thinking too much. YOu do not need pills. Calm yourself down, try sleeping tea, herb and you can try yoga at home before you go to sleep, it helps to relax

Simply Sleep works like a charm for me.

You can try Valerian root that is a herb and all natural. Some people think it has a foul odor and you have to take too many to sleep but it works for me. Melatonin is a good natural thing also. Your body/brain naturally produces this and it is responsible for inducing sleep. About 9Mg's works. But this takes two hours to work on me. The only reason I don't say Tylenol PM is with me, the next morning I feel I got hit by a truck. And I heard of people having problems with it. What I do not know.

sleepmd?

nyquil will do

Melatonin! I swear by it...

It isn't addictive, and you don't have that overly tired hungover feeling the next morning. Take it by 10pm, you'll be snoozing by 11.

Good luck! insomnia is a b*t*h

Valarian root tea smells horrible, but relaxes you so you can fall asleep.
Sometimes Benedryl for a runny nose helps you sleep too. If you're relaxed you should be able to sleep.
Eliminate all caffeine before bedtime - chocolate, coffee, tea, etc.

There really is no 'best' sleeping pill. If you have having problems sleeping - it is best to try natural remedies. Valerian root has been mentioned, and another is melatonin.

Your body produces melatonin naturally and it cycles with sleep. You may just need a little jump-start of this compound.

Whenever I have trouble sleeping (I occasionally have bouts of insomnia) I do this little ritual:

- First, I might masturbate depending on where I am and such. I don't mean to be crude at all, but masturbation is a safe way to relieve tension and let's face it--orgasms are pretty relaxing. This isn't a must, but some may find it to help.
- I brew some herbal tea (thus no caffeine) that contains lavender, camomile, peppermint, and/or valerian root. These herbs have different functions, but generally reduce stress, anxiety, ease digestion, promote healthy sleep, and act as safe and natural sedatives (when taken properly).
- I take a hot shower or bath to relax my muscles. If you have lavender extract, you can add some oil to the bath or prepare a sachet a dried lavender to increase the relaxation benefits of the bath.
- I then put on a CD of rain sounds or other ambient nature sounds (sometimes classical music as well) which lulls me to sleep.

Any combination of these things may help your mind and body relax, allowing you to get restful sleep. I think you should try remedies like these before resorting to sleeping pills, because many OTC sleeping pills are only strong enough to make you somewhat drowsy, but if you're feeling anxious or your mind is very alert, they won't make you pass out, instead you may suffer from some negative side effects and spend your whole next day in a state of drowsiness. Or, if they do make you pass out, you might oversleep or if you try to wake up too early you'll feel groggy and almost hung over.

Other things that might help:

- Exercise during the day so that your body requires rest more so than it would if you don't exercise. Even if this just means going for a nice long walk around the neighbourhood.

- Melatonin supplements can help regulate sleeping patterns, and they don't have any negative side effects when taken properly.

- Making sure that your bedroom is in complete darkness will help your mind ease into sleep. Sometimes, I have to put a strip of duct tape over my clock in order to be in pitch darkness, but I tend to find that it helps.

- Alternatively, if you prefer to have some light, or if light doesn't seem to bother you, you could consider burning an aromatic candle that will additionally help you relax--just make sure to burn it safely: place the candle in a shallow bowl or dish filled with water and place the dish away from any flammable fabrics or surfaces so that if it falls over it will fall in the water. Choose a wide candle that has less chance of falling over to begin with. Please be extremely careful if you sleep with candle light--waking up to a smoke filled house on fire is NOT conducive to a good nights rest!!

A final note:

It's true that marijuana is a natural depressant and in most people is induces sleepiness after the "high" effects begin to wear off. However, I suggest avoiding alcohol and the combination of the two if you want to have a productive day the next morning. Alcohol upsets the digestive system as it passes through, so even if it passes you out, you won't get a very restful sleep because your body will be processing the alcohol for much of the night. Plus, if you over do it you might feel hung over in the morning. The combination of alcohol and pot definitely induces sleepiness, but it can be very hard to get out of bed the next morning. Last time I had a heavy night of drinking and ended it by smoking some marijuana, I slept for nearly twelve hours and it resulted in an over-sleep headache the next day.

Good luck! Peace and best wishes!

exercise and plenty of fresh air during the day. When I have a lot going on in my head I like to read myself to sleep. If you can get into meditating- this will knock you out at bedtime. Get a meditation/hypnosis tape and try it out.

sominex, 2 tablets 30 min. before bedtime!!
