Protein supplements?!

Question: I'll be 16 next Saturday and I want to build my body stronger. Do protein supplements really work? What kind? Price? Do all pharmacies have them? Are they safe to take? Anything I should know before taking these pills?

Yes, protein supplements work and thousands of body-builders use them.
As far as kind, there are many options out there... most people prefer powders for the taste and ease of digestion, but some like protein bars as well.
With price, it varies by brand, size of bottle, and the store you buy it at. You can get a 1 lb container for as little as $10-20 or as much as $50-80 (which are mostly rip offs). The biggest determining factor in the choice of protein powders (aside from the price) is taste.... if you're going to be taking this stuff every time you work out, you don't want to take something that you hate the taste of.
Most pharmacies have some small variety, most health food stores have more variety (but often higher prices), and most mail order or internet companies will have a larger variety and lower prices. Make sure to check that the company is legit before you get any product, though.
They are completely safe to take.... protein is protein. It's just like eating a hamburger, but it's faster and your body absorbs it easier.
Anything you should know? Yes, don't take protein pills. For the quantity you would need daily (20-30 grams, depending on the product), you could take large pills (about 1 gram each) or you could take small pills (up to 500 mg each).... with either option, you'll be taking dozens of pills at a time. An easier option is a powdered drink that you can chug instead of 30 large pills that you have to choke down.

Aside from all that, as I mentioned, taste is one of the biggest factors. Try a small container of any brand of protein powder before buying a huge one... if you don't like the taste, it's not as much of a loss. Good luck!

Big pills(maybe) cost (various)
So depending on what you get it'll help you, make sure you read the warnings and instructions since you're still young it might have side effects so be careful.

Definitely try Metabolol 2 scoops twice a day works for me all the time oh yah and try being more active it helps with the muscle building process

i wouldnt take the pills. i would just work out very hard and drink muscle milk, syntha-6, or myoplex. they pills are not going to do it all for you, u just have to work ur butt off. trust me i am 17 and the supplements will do nothing if u dont work out hard. take those 3 things i told u after u work out, but just pick one of them

You don't have to just take pills. They have protein bars and protein shakes... It's probably good to work out while talking in all this extra protein. Otherwise you will either gain weight (not in muscle) and/or have trouble pooping :P

optimum nutrition is a good brand, it doesn't cost too much and it taste pretty good, www.dpsnutrition.com has good prices but sometimes it just takes experimenting with different things because people's bodies work different than others but as far as taking any protein its safe but try not to take much more than like 20 to 30 grams of protein every 2 to 2 1/2 hours because people's bodies can't use but so much every lil while

generally, protein supplements are not pills. they are harmless, and you dont get them from pharmacies. you could get a simple whey protein shake that will give you about 32 grams of protein, which you should have at least after every workout. you can also have one in the morning and one at night depending on if you would like to gain weight. i would suggest muscle milk because it has protein and many essential vitamins. muscle milk regular has a lot of calories too which will help you bulk up a bit as well, or you can get muscle milk lite that has less calories. id try the reg to jump start your workouts. you WILL see a difference and there really isnt any bad effects at all its all just nutrients your body makes naturally, except you will fart and poop a lot. that is will all protein supplements though. you can find it at gnc, vitamin shoppe and places like that for around 30 bucks. as with any supplement you must work out to make them work, they are what they say there are: a SUPPLEMENT to your workouts.

Yes, they help you to build muscle. But, you have to do wt. training in order to get the full benefit. Just taking extra protein by itself won't build muscle.

The rule of thumb is to take the same amount of protein in grams as your body weight. So, if you weight 180 lbs, then you need to take 180g of total protein per day. That includes the protein you get from food. Don't rely on protein supplements to get all your protein. The body process protein best from food.

One of the best supplements you can take, and studies have shown is the best, is Pro Complex. You get 55g of protein in 2 scoops, which is used to make a shake. Most bodybuilders use this brand.

Also, keep in mind that taking so much extra protein will put stress on your colon (Large Intestines). So, to keep from getting constipated, and having "killer farts", you should also take Pro Biotics along with each serving of Pro Complex. It will help A LOT!

Good luck. And, remember, be patient in your training, be consistent, and train hard.
