Reiki - what does it feel like to do - and recieve?!

Question: I know there are somethings we can feel that we cant explain - I'm not expecting the impossible - just please try to convey the benefits of recieving it...

Also, I'm kind of confused about what it feels like to do....I'm thinking about taking a class on it....which is why I'm asking the question....but can someone maybe give me a beginning excercise to get a feel for what it feels like to do it? I'm not sure I understand how it differs from meditation.

Thanks all - be well - peace

Hello freshbliss,

I am a practicing Reiki Master in the traditional Usui system. I have been using Reiki on a daily basis for over 10 years and would recommend it to anyone.

To answer the first part of your question, the most noticeable benefits people get from receiving reiki include stress reduction and a feeling of calmness and inner peace. The stress reduction usually happens within about 10 minutes. People liken it to receiving a massage except there is no tissue manipulation.

The feelings of calmness and inner peace almost always happen but take a little longer, depending on the individual circumstances. Typical results take between 15 minutes to an hour, but again, this is highly subjective. If a person is really comfortable, the results will be better. The feeling of inner peace is like being calm, totally relaxed and having a deep sense of contentment with yourself and the world around you. I have gotten similar sensations while sitting by myself on the beach or walking along a forest trail. It makes you feel like smiling. Not manic, just calm and centered.

Relief of pain is also quite common. Short term imbalances, like a cold, flu, or sprained muscles, will often feel much better, if not completely relieved, after a single session. I have also seen really amazing results. People can have emotional breakthroughs that leave them feeling lighter and happier than they have in years. I have heard people say that Reiki completely transformed their lives.

Channeling Reiki energy feels great. A simple exercise to get started is to sit comfortably, relax your hands on your legs, and focus on the breath moving in and out of your body. Imagine a beam of light shining down from above and into the top of your head, filling you with a warm glow. With each inhale, imagine the glow getting brighter. As you exhale, imagine the light moving through your hands, into your legs, and then into the ground.

The concept behind Reiki is that the universe is full of energy. Reiki (loosely translated as Universal life force) is simply allowing yourself to act as a channel for this energy. I think of it as opening myself to love. When I channel Reiki, I am opening myself to receiving this love and then sending it into someone or something else as loving thoughts.

Reiki is different from meditation in that meditation is to clear the mind of mental chatter. Reiki is to make someone or something feel better. Think of it as the difference between cleaning your desk of all clutter (meditation) and then writing a letter to a dear friend to lift their spirits (Reiki). Both are wonderful and they compliment one another nicely but the intent is different.

I hope this information helps you.

May your heart be light and your soul filled with laughter.

What is the question?

Most people who receive Reiki are typically spiritual in nature, and rather open minded to ideas (as strange as it may be). With that said, most people who receive Reiki (and other forms of "hands-on" healing experience it differently. Some people on the receiving end of Reiki experience what some would consider paranormal visions, some people feel a zap, some people experience instantaneous relief of symptoms, some people feel nothing at all. It may or may not be a placebo, but I have seen the result end of Reiki, and it does seem to provide benefits in areas of general well being, learning more of the spiritual, and health.

The same goes for performing Reiki, practioners may experience different sensations. The most common of which is warmer hands. I think the closest feeling you can get to knowing what it feels like is putting your hand close to a boiling pot on top of a stove. Now, not everyone experiences warmer hands, and it just may very well be how you focus your mind.

Reiki is very much like any other hands-on healing methods. If you compare energy usage with other modalities such as quantum touch, pranic healing, ki gong, and others, you will find astounding similarities that will change your view on healing forever. It is similar to meditation in some ways, and different in others. Focus, and belief is perhaps the most important thing to keep in mind when one practices Reiki (also a calm mind like that of being in meditation), which is something I see very few "masters" emphasize. A person who does not believe in Reiki will not have the same results as one who does. It is similar to martial artists performing breaking exercises on objects such as bricks and wood, except that instead of using energy to break, the healer uses energy to heal.

I must advise that you do a bit of research on Reiki and other healing techniques before you take class on it. It would be beneficial in that 1.) Your own enlightenment on the subject will improve your practice/beliefs if you wish to pursue it, and 2.) You will know if Reiki is truly for you.

Cheers

Reiki do nothing, just psychological induction.
I have checked it several times.

Everyone's experience receiving is different. Some see, hear, feel things. Some don't really feel much at all. A great number feel relaxed or sleepy. The benefits are endless. Promotes better health and reduces stress. Helps heal issues from the source of the problem rather than mask it with medications.

When I do Reiki, the palms of my hands and the souls of my feet heat up and feel like they are buzzing. I kind of liken it to when your hand starts to fall asleep, but before the painful prickly feeling happens.

After the attunements, all you need is the intent to heal. Thinking about what you want to do is all it takes. Sometimes I don't even intend to send energy. It just flips on when needed. This can happen when I'm near someone who needs some healing energy or like when I hold my husband's hand. With meditation you have to kind of be in a "zone". Reiki still works even if you aren't totally focused on sending the energy. I can watch tv and get rid of my husband's headache at the same time if I wanted to. Of course, when I do sessions I don't watch tv or have other distractions going on, but I'm just trying to make a point.

Every experience of receiving Reiki can be different. Personally, sometimes I just fall asleep and wake up feeling very refreshed and peaceful. Sometimes I feel heat or almost like mild electrical impulses, sometimes I see colors or images, sometimes I get information, sometimes I release blocked emotion and feel like laughing or crying. Always it fills me with love and gratitude.

While giving Reiki, I feel my heart fill with divine, pure love and I feel that love move out through my hands, sometimes I feel warmth or tingling in my hands. The process of giving Reiki is fairly meditative for me but you can meditate without doing Reiki and you can do Reiki and not reach a meditative state but the two do go well together.

I am always happy when I get to give or receive Reiki. I always recommend that people receive at least one session before taking Reiki training and at least one session from the person you intend to learn from. Why would you learn to do something and expect others to let you do it to them if you would not have it done yourself? Also you only want to learn from someone whose work you like.

As a healer it is important to follow your own healing journey and do the work on your own healing in order to be in integrity with what you want others to do as well as to keep yourself well cared for so that you are in good shape to serve others.

I wish you a wonderful process of discovery with Reiki. It is a beautiful thing and it can bring such blessings to your life and with it you can bless the lives of others. There is no better gift.
