Home remedies for migraines?!

Question: I get migraines about 2-3 times a month. I know, I know I should see a doctor. They run in my family so I'm pretty sure it's one of the reasons I get them. I don't wanna have to rely on a pill to take everyday and I've taken the ones that you take when you feel a migraine coming on, but most of the time they don't work for me. Does anyone know any home remedies? I only drink water but and will occasionally have a latte or tea so cutting caffine really isn't a option since I don't really drink it. B

Maybe you are having a hard time seeing, my brother gets headaches when he watches tv or reads, so we got hes eyes checked and glasses help during those activities.

Taking a hot bath always helps me!

I get migraines too, i don't know if you've tried, but when you feel one coming on, take an excedrin (two if it's a bad one). about 20 min later mine are almost always gone.

dark room, all the lights and tv out for an hour or 2 and it,s cheap as chips....it does work

umm this might sound funny but seriously it works. i get migraines all the time, and you know what helps the most? LEMON SKINS. just peel a lemon, and put it on your forehead. put some on your temples, and middle forehead. tie something like a handkerchief around your head to keep the lemon skins in place. keep it there for a while. take it off when you feel relieved.

VWAH LAH!

good luck!

I don't exactly get migraine but I've had bad headaches atleast once a week my whole life and small headaches just about every day. I use one of those eye masks that I stick in the freezer and lay down or I use one of those corn sacks that I stick in the microwave.

the only thing that has helped me was topamax. the dr. said to take it daily, but i don't i only take it when necessary, and thats 1-3 tmes a month. also, if you are pregnant, you can't take topamax cause it causes birth defects.

at home i turn off all the lights, sounds, make it as dark as possible, drink green tea, and just try to relax, have someone rub your head if possible.. and put a hot/warm washcloth on your head. i have always found this to help opening up the blood flow of the vessels.

Generally, the best treatment for a migraine is to sleep. So when you feel one coming on and you can afford the time to take a nap.

I have had awesome success with putting something like icyhot or flexall on my temples, forehead or the back of my neck.(I've even used this for sinus headaches across my nose and under my eyes---just don't get it in your eye!) I was having them 2-3 times a month also and I tried this and haven't had a full blown migraine for 4 months! And I used to hit the urgent care to get a shot every time! Now, I do this and also take ibuprofen. And another thing that works for me is to use one of those herbal sented bean bag style things that you can heat up in the microwave and lay it across your eyes and forehead and lay down for an hour or so. I combine these things when I get a headache that I'm sure is turning into a migraine and it takes it away before it becomes full blown! Can't hurt to try...

I drink chamomile tea and stay in a dark, quiet room. My mom had them and went to the doc and got Topamax, which made her have health issues, so I avoided that one.

I took Excedrin Migraine for awhile, but they got unbearable so I sucked it up and went to the doc. IMITREX is a Godsend. You don't have to take it every day, you just take it when you feel a migraine coming on and it stops it. It's a wonderful thing! I would honestly talk to a doctor about it.

Cayenne Pepper:

Taking cayenne inside the nose helps to open up the blood vessels. This enables the blood to get nutrients to all parts of the brain. Warning - this can burn a bit, so keep the grains of cayenne down to as few as possible.

To stop a migraine follow these simple steps:

Open the capsule and dip the flat end of a dry toothpick into the cayenne to pick up 3-4 grains.
Block one nostril and gently put cayenne up the other nostril.
Sniff deeply 3-4 times until you feel the flecks of pepper in your throat. (If you don't feel this, do it again).
Once you feel the warmth in your throat, you headache should be gone in minutes

Drop of peppermint oil on finger and hold to roof of mouth for 30seconds to one minute. reapply.

Magnesium

Lemon peel crust as someone mentioned..

I suffered exactly like you do now...2-3x a month of migraine. It's crippling!!! I'd give up anything to get rid of it. I have tried excedrin and any pain reliever over the counter. NOTHING worked. It was so bad I couldn't focus on anything. Then one day I tried green tea which I bought from an Asian supermarket. I boiled enough water for a cup of it and guess what...my migraine was gone after 20 minutes. I could not believe it. It was a hallelujah moment for me. Since then, everytime I get migraine, and I could feel it like kind of crawling from the back of my neck first going out of its way to my back....I drink 1-2 cups of green tea right away. Same result and never fails...20-40 minutes later, the migraine is gone!!! I heard a lot of good benefits from green tea but what it does for my migraine is really wonderful. It's a natural pain reliever. I don't think I can live without it. I'm just wondering if every green tea out there has the same effect. I bought "The Vert" green tea made in China. I highly recommend it.

Feverfew is suppose to be good for migraines
also notice if you get them from eating certain foods.
Relax in a hot tub with lavender oil
wear really comfortable shoes and clothes
dim lights.
massage your neck and your temples, sometimes rubbing the top of your head helps too.

Magnesium before you go to sleep helps too.

here is some helpful info

First, Make sure your posture isn't hunched over and your neck isn't strained, that's a big one that's often overlooked. also make sure you aren't grinding your teeth, or that your jaw has too much tension.

For symptoms, you need to find what works best for you. Some chronic migraine sufferers find relief with oxygen therapy, eg:small tanks with oxygen masks. I personally use Excedrin Migraine, guided meditation, or (believe it or not) a bite of a habanero chili pepper. The heat from the habanero bite stimulates an endorphin rush which often aborts my cluster headache. I've also found that controlled deep breathing, relaxing, and neck and shoulder massage can work just as effectively. The idea is that once people have their headaches the inclination is to stress further which often exacerbates the headache and prolongs it. Sometimes for me, just finding a peaceful place to sit alone, "letting go", finding a "Zen" place, relaxing my breathing, and visualizing my blood vessels and nerves going from a dilated state to smooth and normal, while massaging the back of my neck is all I need. It just depends. The key is too find the ability to relax though, after years of suffering cluster headaches I've learned that stressing the state you're in makes it worse, while "letting go" and finding peace can normalize blood vessel tone.

Cluster headaches are said to be in the same family as migraines in that they originate from the same place but manifest themselves slightly differently. Whether it's oxygen therapy, Excedrin Migraine, Habanero Chili Peppers, Guided Meditation, or all of the above, I'm fairly certain one or all of the things I've mentioned would work for your migraine.

Good Luck.
