honestly, I was put on prozac a long time ago and it made my depression way worse than what it was that I tried to commit suicide twice. The best way that I found to overcome depression is to completely put yourself in a new setting......new friends, new school, new job, new outlook on life, look to the bright side of things, and concentrate on the positive...whatever it takes to make you happy again without going on those mind altering drugs. good luck

You should take one that works best for you. I would consider therapy in addition to or instead of medication. Studies have shown that antidepressants and therapy in combination are significantly more effective than either is alone. Different antidepressants have been effective for different people. There's no one that has proven to be markedly better than others. The side effects are generally not that serious.

This isn't your decision to make.

That stuff messes up your brain chemistry , if your dopamine , serotonine , noradrenaline ... levels aren't what they should be , there are telltale signs your doctor (psy) will pick up when he gives you a diagnosis..

He will advise you to take the adequate medication in adequate dose.

Don't mess around with medication..

Also , they are but a walking stick , therapy and living in a (mentally) healthy environment is what will get you cured.

(edit: Anti depressants only start working after 2 or 3 weeks)

edit2: Ok , since you're going to wait untill your doctor advises you to take 'em i can say , the list of _possible_ side effects is mind boggling , those things work on the very center of what is yourself, changes range from sudden loss of hair , sudden hair growth , up to complete change of personality and going on a killing spree with a machine gun. It's different for everyone.. lol , effexor will make your teeth hurt when you try to stop , stopping prozac can trigger a psychotic episode..

I seriously could go on all day..

Contrary to what you might think , i'm not saying these meds are "bad" and i'm not saying they should be avoided .. i'm saying you need therapy 2X a week (where medication is but a tool to help it stick and help you advance), and need to stop your "bad habits" (IE if you can't handle cheating on your husband , or your husband cheating on you (just silly examples)) taking anti depressants is not going to fix your neurosis ..
You need to change , understand the world around you , sometimes you can't understand stuff without a mentor.
You need to change your environment so you are able to live in it.

When depressed you don't choose to be ill , but you do choose your symptoms.

edit3 : don't confuse anti-depressants with benzodiazepines (valium , lysanxia , xanax , etc ..) those serve no long term purpose whatsoever , they temporarily relieve anxiety and are used for acute panic or similar. Good doctors tend to be very sparse with prescribing those these days. They are basically nothing more than legalized recreational drugs.

Kind regards.

there are many types and its hard to say what type will help you if any, just coz they worked for one person does not mean they will for someone else.
you really need to see your doctor.
but if your feeling down do not shut ur self away from your friends and family, keep active, don't drink beer it just makes you worse.

Try not to. At least not long term. OK perhaps for a week or two to get over a particularly distressing event, Much better in the longer term is counselling and advice to find the root cause of the depression and deal with that cause. Long term use of antidepressants can cause mood change, even worse depression and even suicidal tendencies.

am not sure on what one not to take but there help i no i have them
look what one up on net see side affects
babes take a low amount first

If you think you need anti-depressants, you should see a doctor.

It is ill-advised to self-medicate!

Such treatment should be supervised by a medical practioner.

Yeah I agree with Bakaneko, I wouldn't mess around with that stuff. If you have to go on it, ask your doctor lots of questions. It's hard to know what works best. I mean different med affect people differently. There is no test you can take to say what will work best. You will be basically experimenting.

-Try to fast for 2 to 3 days on apple juice. This will act as a very effective nerve tonic and recharge the nerves with new energy and life.
-Try to eat regularly, even though you may not feel like it. Include plenty of vegetables and fruits.
-Exercise regularly. Try practicing deep breathing exercises and muscle relaxation methods.
