Will a melatonin tolerance increase daytime alterness?!

Question: Throughout the day I occasionally feel tired and/or droggy. Since melatonin is the hormone that makes us tired, would a melatonin tolerance make me more alert throughout the day?

I would think it would be easy to build a tolerence, if one were to take a melatonin sleeping pill every night before bed.

A metatonin tolerance would cause you to have difficulty falling asleep, it will not help you to stay alert. You'll end up more tired, and cranky.

I would suggest you drink a glass of water and/or a glass of orange juice when you feel tired or groggy. Pack some healthy snacks like carrot sticks, a healthy trail mix (avoid the chocolate), and apples are great too. It will help.

Pills aren't necessary.
1. Make your bedroom a sanctuary - dark and quiet, no stress or distractions, no one is allowed to enter once you go to bed
2. Go to bed around the same time every night.
3. Don't eat, drink, or do anything an hour before bed that will interfere with your sleeping.
4. If you sleep with someone and they have different habits (ex. snore, like some light, etc.), develop a plan. (ex. nose strips, ear plugs, eye mask, etc.)
5. Find what helps you sleep. I like the sound of a fan, and it keeps the room cool. My friend does yoga before sleeping. My mom ignores the drinking rule and has a cup of hot tea with some milk.

No. It's best to avoid pills if you can! If necessary try some Vervain tea in the morning it will cut down groggieness! Many drunks use Vervain to cure their hangovers! If your healthfood store is sold out of Vervain then get Gingko Biloba tea
