Oregano Oil is from Oregano.
I think the people you've heard the other things from are referring to "horror stories" of some low/no quality companies (aka "fly-by-night" companies) that may have actually used Basil instead of Oregano to make a quick buck. Those are the same moral levels that companies who claim they sell Ribose (or other expensive powder) that's actually baking powder or something cheaper. Unfortunately, people that would do things like that exist in this world... but they are the uncommon example that doesn't reflect the rest of the industry.
As long as you can verify the quality of the company you're dealing with, you can be assured that the Oregano Oil you're taking is from Oregano and it'll help with the Gastrointestinal, Respiratory, and Urinary Tract health among all the other benefits ;-)

No, it's wild oregano, and much in the US comes from Oregon (no relation). When you take it, you often have an afterburp, and you KNOW it's oregano! It's an excellent anti-microbial. I use it to keep UTIs at bay, and it always works.

If you don't know what it is, why are you taking it????
