The right way to throw away medicine?!

Question: my parents have old medincine that they want to throw away and they hear that it's good to throw it away in the toilet. lately we've been hearing about how there's perscription medicine in the water and i was wondering what was the best way to throw away medicine so it wont contaminate the water.

Yes your right, I had just watch the news tonight and it was mentioning a lot the cities in my state that medicines are in the water systems! One city had over 68 traces of medications in there drinking water!

Many people get freaked out hearing the water that comes into there homes is actually part lake water and part sewage water, but it all goes though many filteration systems first of course! But ever since I found out about it, I don't drink water! Only to take medication or aspirins and even then very little!

Because to me, I feel it is impossible to filter urine! And ever since, I stay away from drinking water! But yes your right, flushing down your toilet makes it end up in the drinking water, not just you flushing, from everyone flushing!

Just call your local Hospital or Doctors office and see if you can drop it off to them to dispose of it correctly, or maybe they can tell you where you can drop it off! Putting it in the garbage is bad because then it's at the garbage landfills, plus kids dig in garbages very often today, and you don't want some kid over dosing from your garbage! You could even call the poison center in your state to see what they may say to do with it!

And I just want to say thanks , for being a very caring responsible person! My hat goes off to you for sure!

Flush it. If you really don't want to do that, throw in the trash.

trash, dump the medicine in the trash first then the bottle

sell it on ebay if it has value on the secondary market.

Just joking.

put the pills which are still inside their plastic bottle inside another tough throwaway plastic container and put that inside a hard metal throwaway container, and then put that triple-packaged kit into the regular trash.
The metal container will protect the plastic from breaking open, and the double layer of plastic will take literally 4 million years to decompose. By the time that happens, the pills will be long gone.

Return it a pharmacy, they will dispose of it safely, do not flush.

I agree. Do not flush them or bump them. It better to return it to the pharmacy. They'll dispose off in a better way.
