Self-piercing?!

Question: im getting my nipple pierced tomorrow either by myself or my bf, both of us know all the risks and are going to use gloves so dont even bother griping over it. i am going to buy an already sterilized kit from a professional store. any ideas on numbing? i want to use ice but idk if that will make the nipple too erect to pierce correctly and possibly oragel and clean the area right before the piercing. any other ideas?

again: yes i know what i am doing, yes i know the risks.

Seeing as you are aware of the potential risks I'll share some advice.

I bought an already sterilized kit and had my husband pierce both of my nipples. We marked the places with a felt tip marking pen then used the specialized hemostats to assist in holding the nipple so that the needle didn't go askew.
Prior to the clamping I used ice for about 5 minutes, the clamping also caused some pain initally but numbed up after a minute or two. Use the gloves and alcohol swab as a safety precaution.

Provide a distraction for you such as a television or something to look at while he's doing it, if you don't want a total distraction then look directly at it. For some reason that did better for me than a distraction.

Unless you have the proper open/close device for a tension ball/ring then I'd strongly suggest using an internally threaded curved or straight barbell (12 guage) to follow the canula through the newly formed hole. An externally threaded will irritate the inside of the "incision" and extend the healing time involved.

Make sure you have the proper length of barbell prior to the piercing, it hurts like hell to have the incorrect length and basically have to do a re-pierce to get the right size in. Have more than one length on hand just in case the first isn't right, follow it through just like the canula if it needs to be swapped out prior to releasing the hemostats. I promise, you don't want to have to re-clamp.

As for aftercare it's a good idea to use an antiseptic and drying aid such as salt water rinse, a shot glass works great for this! Mix sea salt and water. Don't wash with anything but water, don't pick at the "crusties" that will form around the newly formed hole. Allow them to take care of themselves with the water you're washing with.

Check those screw on balls to make sure they're not loose every few days. Don't pick or pull on the new piercing as tempting as it may be. Very gently rotate as to allow the area to "breathe" inside.

Total healing time before you even try to change out jewelry or play rough with them should be a minimum of 8 weeks. Even at 8 weeks I was still a little leery of playing rough with them. Do NOT try to change out the barbell or ring prior to then, you're just asking for trouble if you try. (i.e. risk of infection, irritation or inability to get through the hole)

Know that if you change them out at some point and try to go to a smaller guage it'll be more difficult to get the 12 guage back in, likewise it'll hurt to get a 14 guage through the hole if you decide to go larger.

Good luck and I hope this helps!

Good luck

that is going to hurt.... im not sure but i think clove oil will numb it i did my nose at home and i had it done twice once i did it the other time my husband did it. it will be a lot easier if you let your bf do it good luck!

och good luck

all i can say is "DONT DO IT" I would most definately go to a professional in case something doesnt go right.

maybe rub some cocaine on your nipple, that might numb it.

Since you know what you are doing why are you asking for advice. When it gets infected please act like you know what you are doing and see a doctor for advice instead of getting on this forum for help. If you really knew what you were doing you would find a professional to do this and not you or worse your boyfriend who probably never did a piercing before. You could really be sorry and a breast is not a fun thing to get an infection in. You could end up damaging more than you know.

please have it done by a professional. That is a very delicate area and you want to avoid any mistakes or a serious infection. I've seen many pierceings by people who thought they new what they were doing.

look up more info and realize that "you know what u are doing" for reals, f-king up your nipple its not fun, unless u are a real freak for pain, seriously potential sensitivity issue for life if u pierce in tru the wrong place or in a funny way, have fun keep it safe, you should not numb it with chemicals to keep it clean, but can have your bf or yourself play with it till its numb, and swab it clean before u do it. hope it helps, infections are not fun.
