500-1000 mgs L-lysine (an amino acid). Take it orally. You'll have to go out for this one, but it really works. Go quick. Remove arginine containing foods from your diet (chocolate, peanuts, other nuts, oatmeal and whole grains) since they are thought to promote herpes virus growth (which is what your cold sore is).

If you just got the cold sore, try applying ice to the sore for 1-2 minutes a few times a day. It could prevent further growth. Or, steep a tea bag (cool it down) and apply the warm, wet tea bag to your sore for 10 mins several times a day. The tannins are thought to relieve cold sores. I've also heard about making a cornstarch paste with water and applying it to the sore.

Nothing will take it away overnight.

put some Vasoline on it

I use triple antibiotic ointment but if you have Hydrogen Peroxide & some olive oil, you could try that. Just cotton ball or Q tip the Hydrogen Peroxide on & apply olive oil with a Q tip as well. Garlic oil would work as well.

Hope this helps.

You can try Vitamin E or petroleum jelly. Moisturizing speeds the healing. Zinc oxide heals cold sores. I'm trying to think of products you might already have in your home.

vinegar it will burn like hell b ut it works or try campho-phenique
