Fish oil and flax seed oil for ADHD?!

Question: I'm 15 and I have mild/moderate ADHD. I'm dealing with it pretty decently without medication, but I'm happy to try anything safe that may help me. I've read about fish oil and flax oil significantly helping kids with ADHD without the horrible side effects of Ritalin. I bought a bottle of 180 soft gel capsules of Fish oil, one thousand milligrams each capsule. I also bought a bottle of Flax Seed Oil, 180 soft gel capsules, 500 milligrams each. How many capsules should I take each day? Also, one more tiny question, shallow though it may be... could taking Fish Oil make me gain weight? (...what are "fatty acids"?)

Take 1 capsule a day as recommended. It won't make you fat it's healthy. Take whatever the bottle of flax suggests.

Also eat enough protein every day and avoid sugar.

This does not really have any thing to do with fish oil, but my son, who is 8 was diagnosed with ADHD, and we decided, instead of medicaton, we would use diet. It has worked wonders.

Look up The Feingold Diet...

The bottle should tell you how many to take and how many calories are in each one.. If that is the worse thing you do.. It will not affect your weight... Cod Liver Oil is also very good for mental health.. : )

Definitely won't make you gain weight, and flax seed is fantastic for your health in any case. It's real brain food. Also, maybe try to steer more clear of fish oil - it contains certain things you shouldn't take TOO much of, so my advice would be to go for flax seed oil. I take it twice a day with meals.

Read the bottles. It should tell you how many calories there are in a daily dose and/or per capsule.

Of course the best person to be asking about such things is your doctor. He/she will be glad to answer any of your questions. I know Fish Oil is good for memory. Don't know about the other. You should always tell you doctor about all over the counter meds. you're taking. This also includes herbals. They can interact with other meds. you're taking, if any.
