Rubbing Alcohol Good for Wound Fact or Fiction?!

Question: Is really healthy for your wound, or is america's long time home remedy just a fallacy?

I'm not talking about the pain and stinging, but if it is really bad health wise to the wound/healing process, because if it does its job, I wont mind. Some of the bad things I have heard is that it dries out the wound, or it kills all the bacteria good and bad? Any of these things true?

No, alcohol will kill your antibodies just like it kills germs. If you are going to clean a wound use a dermal wound cleanser which has saline in it, it will be more soothing also. I hope this helps!!

It is good. It kills all of the bad bacteria. I know because my toes is infected right now and I have been using alcohol on it and it has gone down a lot and its not as red and sore.

Hydrogen peroxide works the best and used by Doctors

It can definately dry out and irritate a wound. I prefer Hydrogen Peroxide.

umm... I know this doesnt answer your q, but someone said that peroxide is the best and what docs use. NOT TRUE. The docs and hospitals actually prefer ChloroPrep, which is 70% alcohol and 30% chlorohexadine(or something like that). Their next fav is betadine and alcohol. Peroxide is at the bottom of their list.
