Are there any other ways to help myself sleep better?!

Question: I haven't slept well in at least a month. I will go 2-4 days with minimal or minimal or no sleep, and then crash for about 12 hours. I can be physically exhausted, and still unable to sleep. The sleep I do manage to get isn't restful, and I'm trying to make medication a last resort. I've tried music, silence, meditation, vitamins, temperature variations, positions, and even where I sleep, but all to no avail. Do you guys have any other ideas that will help? Thanks in advance!

First, this may sound really silly, but I always fall asleep easier when I'm not trying hard to sleep. Letting my mind wander always helps.
What do you do during the day? If it is something monotonous such as working at a computer or something, I'd understand how you'd have trouble sleeping.
Exercise vigorously, or do manual labor of whatever kind you can manage! The tiredest I have ever been and the best I have ever slept is when I was running in the morning and evening, giving myself a good hard workout, and chasing after kids and doing chores all day in between. Cut all the caffeine and unneeded sugar out of your diet...I know you said you tried temperature variations, but I always get sleepy when the room is a tiny bit warmer than it needs to be...put on a movie you've seen a million times and turn the volume way down low...read a book that is a little bit heavy reading and read it laying down...never fails to make my eyes droop. :) I have heard that foods like turkey and milk are natural sleep inducers...maybe make yourself a hearty sandwich and eat it right before bed? Full tummy also makes me sleepy. Of course I am 19 weeks pregnant right now so i am ALWAYS sleepy...but I know that sleepless feeling. Good luck! Hope you get some rest!!

If you are having that much trouble sleeping, I would suggest seeing a sleep specialist. There may be something seriously wrong in your body, with your Serotonin, or even simple stress... a sleep specialist can help to determine this based on your sleeping patterns. You may not need medication at all, but there may be something major you need to look at that you might not realize you need to look at.
I know a couple people that went to a sleep specialist when they had trouble sleeping or were really tired, and they found ways to fix the problem. It's always best to look for the cause of a problem and fix it than to medicate to cover up the symptoms. Good luck!

Try and see if these home-remedies work for you.
