Why Might People Have Acupunture?!
Question: I was always skeptical of acupuncture. My wife is a believer in it though.
Recently my wife was having ulcers inside her mouth on her lips, she had 14 at one count.
She went to the doctor and tried some other things and nothing worked. Finally she went to an acupuncturist and he diagnosed her with having heart heat. He finished the procedure and in 2 days the ulcers went away.
Now it may be a placebo effect in that my wife believes that acupuncture works, and so it does for her. Kind of like how people say voodoo can only harm you if you believe it can. Maybe for a skeptic like myself it will not work, that remains to be seen.
So people that I know have acupuncture because traditional doctors can not seem to solve the issue, or they do not trust doctors in the first place. Also some people just prefer natural remedies.

As a pain relief. Acupuncture is good at relieving chronic pain.
In the hope of easing pain without medication or surgery.
My cousin had acupuncture to lose weight. It didn't work. Now, it looks like she has a small staple in each ear. I, myself, wouldn't have it done. Of course, my cousin had no will power either. It may have worked then. But if she had will power, she could have dieted for free and lost the weight.
To stop pain in specific areas.
any number of medical conditions. my dad gets it for his arthritis, my friend for a trapped nerve in his back and you can have it as stress relief too.
Pain management is the primary reason.
There is quite a bit of good scientific research that has proved that if done properly it can reduce pain as the needles stimulate hormones that the body produces naturally to fight pain.
I believe that other claims have less scientific substantiation other than the placebo effect that is also found to be an explanation for other remedies that help stimulate the bodies own healing process presumably as the patient believes in them
