I have tried everything to lower my cholesterol. Any extreme or off the wall tip!

Question: I'm looking for natural ways, home remedies, anything besides taking medication that will help. Thanks

Fish oil, garlic, oats and apple cider vinegar all help and there are lots of other natural remedies that you can find in a web search for "high cholesterol" + "natural remedies".

Each natural remedy helps a bit and you may have to take several of them.

If everything keeps failing then as a last resort you could become a vegan. No animal protein or animal fat of any kind; not even dairy products, eggs or fish.

Stop eating sugar.
Sugars and grains require insulin secretion, which is a potent stimulus to the liver to produce triglycerides, and sugars and grains must be reduced if you are looking to lower your triglycerides.

Sadly enough, high cholesterol is often inherited. It doesn't matter if you are overweight, thin, or in between.

Have you looked on line, for low fat/low cholesterol diet tips? Go to a search engine, like GOOGLE and type in:

"low cholesterol diet foods recipes"~it will find key words and bring you up all the help you need.

As far as OTC things to try, all I know of is garlic [the no odor ones] pills, at least, that's what I have read in the herbal remedy books.

Evidently you must not have tried everything.
You should take anti oxidents, omega fatty acid, hawthorn berry, co Q 10, Eat garlic, high fiber and good fats.
Eat fresh fruits and vegetables.

Exercise.

Avoid bad fats (transfats) such as crisco/wesson oils and margarine.
Cut down on meat.

Fish oil aka Omega-3 Fatty Acid has been shown to help lower your cholesterol. You can take a supplement or eat fish that are rich in Omega-3 Fatty Acid. Read the labels of what you are eating. Stay away from trans fat. Monounsaterated fat and Polyunsaterated fats are actually good for your heart.

In many people high levels are linked to a diet rich in saturated fat and cholesterol. Both are present chiefly in animal foods, such as beef, butter, and whole-milk dairy products. (Coconut, palm, and hydrogenated oils in processed foods are high in saturated fat but not cholesterol.) Excess weight, smoking, and lack of exercise can have an undesirable effect on cholesterol levels as well.

Improve your diet by reducing saturated fats and dietary cholesterol. Substitute fish for meat, eat high-fiber foods (grains, vegetables, and fruits), and use monounsaturated oils (olive or canola) in place of butter. Dietary cholesterol can raise blood cholesterol levels. But it's the saturated fat in foods that affects cholesterol levels even more. Even if a food label boasts No Cholesterol, don't just assume the product is healthy. Check carefully for its saturated fat content. Follow a program of regular exercise to help raise your HDL level.

Follow a low-fat, low carbohydrates, high fiber diet, more a plant-based diet.

Several nutritional and herbal remedies can help control cholesterol levels.

Begin by taking vitamins E and C, and garlic, either together or separately. These are beneficial and safe to use for long periods - even if you're on a cholesterol-lowering prescription drug. Although it does not lower your cholesterol directly, vitamin E seems to prevent free radicals (unstable oxygen molecules) from damaging LDL cholesterol-the first step in the buildup of coronary plaque.

Vitamin C helps boost the effectiveness of vitamin E and may even increase the level of protective HDL cholesterol.

Studies have been conflicting on the power of garlic to lower cholesterol levels, but many nutritionally oriented physicians believe it has a positive effect and is worth trying.

And anyone whose diet lacks soluble fiber, which can lower total cholesterol, should add flaxmeal, or try a fiber supplements. Pection is the most helpful one.

Fish oil tablets twice a day

A natural remedy called Guggul is the most powerful cholesterol lowering herb. It is a gum from Guggul tree.

If you keyword Guggul on the web, you will find plenty of them for sale. Guggul has no known side effect, what it does is to help the liver break fats, improve the flow of bile, and your body can process fat and cholesterol properly.

I personally have tried this, and not only it kept my cholesterol in check, also I find that my body weight over all got leaner. Guggul also helps break down carb in the diet. I can't say enough good thing about this herb.

But do know that a supplement is not the only answer without proper diet and exercise. You still should watch what you eat, more fish and chicken if you have high cholesterol, and get all the vitamins and omegas by taking a good multi-vitamin formula.
Exercise at least 30 minutes every other day, drink plenty of water.

One more thing, it is better to take Guggul after you've eaten. The company called Pure Encapsulation makes a Guggul capsule form.

I hate to disagree with another poster, but golistas advice is way off. We have been brainwashed to believe that high cholesterol is from fats. It's also not true that your cholesterol levels determine heart disease or stroke. It's true we need to avoid trans fats and hydrogenated oils, but not saturated fats. When you don't get the right fats, like from butter, eggs, whole cream, olive oil, cheese, etc. your body will produce "bad" cholesterol. Basically you need to consume these good fats every time you eat, along with protien and natural carbs. Get a book called "The Schwarzbein Principle". This is an easy to understand book that will change the way you eat and what you believe about cholesterol. You should be able to get off of these terrible drugs after reading this book. Good luck!

Absolutely! And relatively easy!
Get Robert Kowalsky's book "The 8 weeks cholesterol cure". You can halve your cholesterol level (that's a lot!) in 8 weeks (that's short!) by eating every day 3 or 4 muffins made with oat bran. They taste quite pleasant and there is a variety of recipes in the book so you can choose your favorite flavour and even experiment so won't get bored with the same flavours.
You can probably get the book at your local bookstore or at amazon.com or amazon.co.uk
The best of luck and good health to you!
