What do shiatsu and accupuncture have in common?!

Question: Hi, The system of Shiatsu was correlated by observance of peoples natural reaction to certain pains, ie where they would hold, press or rub. This then is based upon intuitive response leading to points on the body that are effective for relief or stimulation of one sort or another. There are many treatments in shiatsu massage that utilise pressure points on the body as well as general manipulative massage.

As a mid point consideration, you could then consider that accupressure, which is more closely related to Accupuncture also uses pressure points rather than needles.

Not knowing enough about accupuncture, I cannot state that the points are the same, but I would think there would be at least some commonalities.

Essentially then it is in the addressing of points along meridian lines in the body that is common in the approach of both disciplines. Beyond that I would consider them quite different treatments, although obviously both are aimed at treating imbalance to regain health.

They both use the body's meridians and "points" as access points to treat or cure conditions. Shiatsu uses finger pressure primarily (It can also involve the use of elbows, feet and walking on a client...), and acupuncture uses needles (primarily) and moxabustion or heat to cure or recreate balance. What else did you want to know?

They are both as good as a placebo. Neither have any scientific evidence that suggests they actually work. They both are supposed to fix your qi even though qi doesn't exist.
