Pre-Schooler with Autism Spectrum Disorder - GF/CF Diet?!

Question: Does anyone have a child with Autism or Autism Spectrum Disorder and have undertaken a GF/CF regimen? I would like to know what other parents have to say and any advice that can be given before I start.

My son is 4 and was diagnosed about five months ago. While we wait for services, money and waiting-lists to be done, we are about to gradually implement GF/CF hopefully in the month of April or May. We have already eliminated cow's milk, but are now about to go GF, organic, chemical-free cleansers and filtered water. Has anyone had any experience with any of this?

Going organic is best for anyone, especially those with special needs. Going GF/CF is no longer as difficult as it once was. Spelt can be used as a wonderful substitute for white flour so that the rest of the family can have "white" bread and not feel deprived. About 10 years ago, I thought that my step-daughter had all the symptoms of Asperger's Syndrome, mild symptoms. The doctors felt that I was wrong as at that time, they only looked at and recognized severe cases as being Asperger's. We did all that you mentioned, and I saw a drastic improvement in her behavior, social skills, judgement calls, report cards. Sadly, when she went back to live with her mother, the d*mn woman refused to follow the diet and lifestyle changes that I had implemented. My step-daughter is now 17, just had a baby by someone that she refuses to identify (or maybe cannot identify), lives with a 45-year old man, and has dropped out of school. She seriously regressed. I stopped the organic diet, and saw negative behaviors from the rest of the family, and now we are back on an organic diet, with myself and two of my daughters being completely vegan. We feel better, have more energy, and the girls are doing wonderfully in school. I can tell when they eat something they shouldn't now, and they can too! One more thing that you might want to consider for your child is Craniosacral Therapy. This technique has proven useful in helping the child develop. I've included the link to the site below. Good luck.

I have had clients try this diet. It has not been useful. He needs speech therapist, physical therapist and occupationa therapists. Good luck
