Question: I have been suffering for the past 2 years. It's not cold sore. It would heal up then get dried an hour later.

What organ affects the lips?
Is it heredity?
What about the food that one eats?

Dry lips can be a sign of essential fatty acid deficiency. This is actually fairly common with our unbalanced 'modern' diets.

Both omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acid deficiency can be involved.

You can do a 60 day trial of cod liver oil supplements (about 1 tablespoon a day), plus walnut oil (1-2 tablespoons each day). The cod liver oil contains omega-3's, and the walnut oil is a good source of both omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.

Take the oils with meals. You can use cod liver oil capsules if you don't want to deal with the fish taste. You can add the walnut oil to salads or just pour it on top of your other foods (using it like you would melted butter).

Best wishes and good luck.

Are you drinking enough?Should be a gallon a day at least.

Here's something that causes them to dry out. Constantly licking your lips and the chap stick a lot of people resort to generally tend to make you lick them more. Think about it. Also, you may be needing to drink more water.

Dehydration leads to the condition of dry lips.
Drinking too much caffeine or alcohol can often be responsible for dryness of lips. Dry, swollen, or cracked lips can be caused by allergies, infections, drugs, and a number of medical problems. Overworking, stress, tiredness and recent infection all lower the immune system, which makes minor infections around the mouth and lips more likely. A variety of topical nonprescription products are available for treating or preventing dry lips. These products typically contain ingredients that assist in healing, such as skin protectants, moisturizers, pain relievers, and sunscreens.
