85% of sore throats are viral and nothing affects recovery nor duration. Statistically even if one includes bacterial sore throats, antibiotics only reduce symptoms by no more than 24 hours.

Local sprays such as Diflam and Chloraseptic can reduce local symptoms while oral paracetamol or ibuprofen ( assuming no contra-indications,) can reduce pain and fever. It is also a good idea to drink plenty of cool fluids.

The following have no effect : Vitamins, specifically high dose vitamin C, Zinc, echinacea, lemons, oranges and honey. Gargling with salt or aspirin is no longer recommended as they are dangerous and irritant.

Strepsils ?

chicken noodle soup

Spoon of honey, with hot water and slice of lemon. Works for me everytime. Or you could gargle with salted water - that will also kill the infection. Takes a day or two to get rid completely.

Paracetamol will bring down your temperature.
Try honey and lemon to sooth your throat!

Go to a doctor and get a prescription.

In the meantime, I'd recommend a hot water bottle, and a nap.
Don't swallow too much, as a sore throat stems from bruised tissue in your throat, and swallowing will hinder the healing process.

Gargle with TCP diluted in water. Take paracetamol for the temperature.

Antibiotics are veryyyy helpful sounds like strep throat to me, had it 7 times in 7th grade. nasty feeling. get to the doctor asap.

go to doctor

There used to be this old saying to gargle salt and lemon and after that drink a little bit of honey. I do that and it works... If that doesn't work. Go to CVS or a store or something and get the medicine for sore throats.

Gargle with salt water 2-3 times a day. It's annoying, but it really does help.

Also, some peppermint tea with honey wouldn't hurt either.

Feel better!

do...... drink lemon juice with hot water and a spoon of hony.
dont.... smoke a hamlet cigare.

Phone in sick and hit the alcohol. Best options would be spirits mixed with honey and lemon. Hope ya get well soon dude.

get those painkillers that disolve in water. put two in a glass of water let them disolve and then gargle with it.

its the best for a sore throat, i get them all the time and it tastes better than gargling with salt water!! paracetamol for the high temp

you may need a antibiotic if its tonsilitus!! hope it isnt tho its so painful. if in any doubt go se ur doctor

A quick temporary 'cure' is to gargle with mouthwash particulally an antiseptic one such as listerine
It works really well to get rid of the annoying burn.

Salt water, soy sauce, lemon honey hot tea and chicken noodle soup help a lot.

Also it helps the pain if you gargle with Listerine or another strong mouthwash or even whiskey or vodka (or any alcohol you have), these really helps the best because they kill the germs and the burn of alcohol takes away the soreness. I would gargle a few times a day.

Drink plenty of water or gatorade, get rest and it will be gone soon. You can go to the doctor if you think it is strep, but most likely it is not, and will get better just as fast if you didn't go to the doc.

i had the exact same thing, i just ate pinapple for 2 days for breakfast, and took stepsils, pinapple is a bacteria killer thats why my mumm has a pinapple based anti bacterial x

Well if you can get to the doctor soon then by all means do so. If not, in the mean time you could go out and buy chloraseptic. It's a bottle of red spray that is sprayed directly on the back of your throat. You don't swallow it, you just let it sit there for a few seconds and then spit it out. This will numb your throat easing you of your pain. I had a horrible sore throat a few weeks ago and also with a temperature. I would also recommend the chicken noodle soup, a hot chamomile tea with honey (lemon is optional/ honey is recommended), and gargling some warm salt water (mix about 1 tsp. of salt with about 8 oz of water/ gargle about 3-4 times)<--tastes horrible by the way but it helps!..Other than that, just relax and don't stress too much. The more you rest, the faster your body will heal. I hope this helps and I also wish you the best in getting well. Take care!

The best ting for a soar throat is to suck ice cubes, also let a teaspoon of honey trickle down your throat. But ice will numb your throat. Take paracetamol to take down your temperature.

Make this drink!!!! its gorgeuos and soothes your throat really well.
1. Boil the kettle
2 While its boiling get a cup and pour in some honey as much you like depending how sweet you want it and squeeze in some lemon juice as much as you want depending how sour you want.
3 When water finished pour it in with the honey you dont need to much water . enjoy and hope you get better!!!
ITS GOOD 2 DRINK A LOT OF FLUIDS TO GET IOT OUT OF YOUR SYSTEM

Orange flavoured dequadin you have to ask for them at the chemist, they have all the things you need and more in them (Reduces tenderness of the throat, mouth and gums.
Relieves symptoms of mouth ulcers and infections.
Also relieves symptoms of tonsillitis, pharyngitis, and oral thrush) Oh and once you start eating properly and I know you will think "crazy" but eat crisps, because they will take the infectious nasty and it will be killed off in the stomach (trust me on this one).

Couple Of Remedies : Lemon And Honey ,Paracetamol,Sucking An Ice Cube (Temporary Soloution),Strepsils,Salt Water, Or If It Is Too Painful Go Consult A Doctor Or Pop Down To Your Local Chemist And Get Some Chloraseptic Spray Or A Refferal From A Doctor Get Some Ibuprofen ........................................... If You Are Dead Set On Getting Rid Of It You Could Use A Georgian Method Mush Up Dockin Leaves And Put The Hair Of A Dog In It Soak In Water For One Day Swallow And If Your Not Dead Or Dying Of Stomach Ulcer It Should Be Gone P.S The Last Remedie Is Not Advisable.

Manuka Honey.

First, I would suggest getting a throat culture to rule out strep.

Secondly, drink chamomile tea with RAW honey and lemon juice. Raw honey has been proven in numerous studies to be an effective germ killer and it also soothes the throat.

If your fever is low-grade, that is 101 or lower it is helping to kill off whatever is infecting your throat. If your fever is higher than this, aspirin or Tylenol or whatever your favorite NSAID is for the fever. Get lots of bed rest and drink lots of warm tea to help your body have the energy to heal itself.

Hope you feel better soon....

Swallow...

cough drops
and gargle salt water

1) Flax seed tea - trust me, this is better than cough syrup or anything else, plus it's a lot healthier!! I use this stuff all the time when I have a sore throat, it coats your throat very nicely, drink it with honey.
2) Ginger and chamomile tea

try honey and lemon. for the infection try silver fusion. also if it gets worse call your doctor.

everyones saying honey and lemon hot teas and drinks. but what will really boost that is some slices of ginger. this is really good for infections and irritations.

slice some ginger and instead of using the kettle. boil water on the stove, once boiled put the ginger in and reduce to a simmer this will bring the nutrients out into the water. then squeeze one lemon and add honey for sweetner. make as much or as little as you want and make sure its strong with ginger. eat the ginger afterwards if you want ilove it, very hot but very good for throat.

or alternatively,

get one jar of honey, chop some garlic so you get about a handfull, and place it ontop of the honey. let it sit until the garlic sinks to the bottom, then eat the honey. You will have wicked garlic breath but it will cure any cold, sniffle, sore throat ache or pain within a day. its very powerful stuff and i know from experience. P>S dont touch the chopped garlic as it will burn like chilis do.

Had the same thing two days ago. Rest, take Strepsils, Soothers and some Lemsip. Also gargle warm salt water. Eat soft foods.
Get well soon. x
