Are fevers a reaction to an infection.?!

Question: Is this a true statment?

Answers: Is this a true statment?

Typically, yes.

You can get fevers from other sources in rare instances, but generally your body will elevate your temperature in an effort to help combat an infection.

This is one of the reasons that so many OTC meds these days are counter-productive to a speedy recovery. A fever is a VITAL tool that your body uses to fight infection, so lowering a fever simply makes your immune system work that much harder to beat the virus or bacteria. There has been concern in the past that a high fever could cause brain damage, but further studies into the matter determined that the only cases where there was actually brain damage were those in which the infection was in the brain ... thus the very high fever and brain damage from the bug - not from the temperature.

Hope that helps!

Yes, in response to chemical messengers, the hypothalamus raises the bodies core temperature in order to kill bacteria. Many strands of bacteria cannot survive past a certain temperature and thus die. That is why people shiver even though the body is over the normal 98 degrees--the body is trying to generate enough heat in order to reach the higher temperature set by the hypothalamus.

It's a true statement. Whenever you have certain infections, your body temp can increase significantly. It's your bodies way of protecting you from the infection. Might be time to see a doc if it's severe.

YES

yes, fever also helps to kill off the pestie flu bugs you get when your sick.

No, it's a question. A statement doesn't start with the word "Are" and end with a "?"
