"silly"? "failed at every single attempt"?

skepdoc: I've conducted my experiments testing over 20 plants with reiki that cannot possibly be influenced by the placebo - all with increased growth rate and leaf size. unless, you have experienced, or practiced reiki, you will always be seen as ignorant and uneducated. so before you throw made-up and biased assumptions, try to catch up with the rest of us before you embarrass yourself any further.

but to answer the question, try not to look at your hands when giving treatment because looking down for long periods will strain the neck and shoulder muscles.

Reiki is a beautiful thing. These silly people who know nothing about Reiki so often want to post things against it rather than truly answer the question.

This other poster does not know that in addition to a multitude of anecdotal success stories there are scientific studies that show benefits of Reiki. There are some that do not just like any so many other things we take as fact.

Incidentally there are many scientific studies published right on ther internet available for easy viewing. I will post one from a very conservative site sponsored by a health insurance provider that is very liability conscious and hesitant to recommend Reiki. Even they can not dispute that there have been reputable scientific studies that show eficacy. There are many others that merely publish the results of a specific study, including methodology, that showed effectiveness. I just thought the more conservative article would be a good place to start for the skeptics.

To answer your question, you are probably looking down at your hands on your client. Keeping your head bent down that way will cause pain in that area of your back. When you place your hands, look at them to see that you are placing them in the place where you intend them to be, then raise your head back up to level position. At that time, check out the placement of the rest of your body. Is your spine straignt or are you bending or leaning? If it is not straight, straighten it and bend at the knees or lunge with your legs to get you into the best position. Are your feet planted shoulder width or a little wider and flat on the floor? Are your knees bent a little? They should be. It is ok to take the time to adjust each time you move your hand placement. At first this may cause a little interruption to the flow but once you are in place, just ground and focus and it will resume. Tme more you check and fix your body mechanics, the more natural it will become and the less you will feel interrupted by it. Your back will thank you. also check the height of your massage table. It should be at a level where you do not have to bend too far to lay hands on your client, yet where you will still have a downward momentum. I like mine about hip high, experiment with yours to see where it is most comfortable.

I hope this helps.

You should attend our Reiki Share. Over half of us women are also massage therapists!!! :-)

Take a small hand towel and grasp it behind your back with both hands. Bend over and let your hands/arms swing upwards with the bending motion. Hold for at least one minute. Stand back up and repeat.

Or.....do a backbend, using a large yoga ball for support. Hold as long as you can and then relax in that same postion on top of the ball. Try for five minutes.

Or....better yet.....get a good massage!

Brightest Blessings!

Reiki is fantastic.

I found it great for reducing my stress levels and it helped me through grief.

I love getting it but hate giving it as I get a pain in my back too. For me it is just from standing or sitting for a long period of time in an awkward position.

Injuries can occur through repetitive actions.

.

Reiki can be beneficial for many people. Does your back hurt in other positions of regular daily living? If so, maybe you should consult with a Chiropractor. They are good at dealing with spine related problems. You can find one in your area by looking in the directory on http://www.chirohub.com I hope he/she can help with your problem.

I have always found it helpful to stretch before a session. I also get pain in my back or in my legs sometimes, but that's more likely to happen when I don't stretch.

Isn't Reiki the use of energy channeled into a body to heal?

In spite of all the people who don't believe in this treatment,or any other form of healing....believe it or not, when you are
concentrating on truly helping, your body and limbs are conductors of energy.you can also get a little fatigued from using yours on others.try not to do to many in a day,and give your own life source a chance to regroup.between each session try to take a few minutes in your quiet or meditation room, and smudge in between so your entering a new fresh none drained atmosphere.if you feel fresh an relaxed you Can enjoy it again...when the enjoyment goes out of what your doing......theres usually a pain somewhere to deal with.....good luck an blessed be...........!

You are probably sitting/standing at an awkward angle and straining a muscle in your back.

Reiki is a completely silly unproven and utterly implausible altmed practice that has failed every single attempt at scientific validation. I ask the other folks who answered to cite a single good quality scientific study that has shown Reiki has any effect beyond that of placebo. Reiki practitioners are no better at detecting someones "energy" then random chance.

Sounds like in your case, it's also bad for you back. Ironic, huh?
