Try taking Swiss Cal-Mag. Its a balanced formula of calcium and magnesium. You should take it every evening, or with your supper. It seems to help.

If you are not allergic to it you can use Sleepy Time Tea, by Celestial Seasonings. I used to use it and it works well, but I became allergy to the chamomile.

Now I just have a cup of Earl Grey Green Tea by Tetley. If the caffiene in green tea bothers you try Decaffinated Green Tea by Tetley.

I've also tried putting a cool pack on the back of my neck. The theory is that it cools you down a little and makes it easier to fall asleep. I do this in summer on hot nights. It seems to help sometimes. I read about this on the internet. I use a rice bag and just keep it in the fridge for a few hours to cool it down. Don't use the freezer, its too cold.

Sometimes a rice bag heated in the microwave helps, especially if you're tense. It relieves tension in the neck and shoulder areas. So does a good neck rub.

A warm shower or bath will also help reduce tension, making it easier to fall asleep.

i usually exercise

warm glass of milk?
taking deep breaths and relaxing your entire body?
some of the suggestions i have for now...
hope this helps.

do something that you know will make you "feel" sleepy. such as for me, I read or do homework. I get tired quickly when doing either of those.

Hrm...few suggestions.

Valarian root. Tastes bad, but works pretty well.
Warm bath. Doesn't work for everybody, but my fiancee swears by it.

Hope it helps.

One of the main blockers to sleep, is thinking while falling asleep. Put your mind on the present moment, your body and your breath. Sometimes, I pretend I am a cat, with nothing to worry about, but lying there. If you cant sleep within 15 minutes, get back up and read, then try again in a few more minutes.

Sounds like you are worried about your "big day" so that might be the thing that's keeping you up..? For me, I am pretty much resigned to the fact that I might not be able to sleep prior to a big event. Worrying about not sleeping just makes it even harder to sleep. But most healthy people will be able to function fine for one day, even without sleep. So stop worrying about it. Do something you enjoy, play your favorite video game, watch a DVD, take a relaxing bath. Sometimes if you can get your mind off of the event, you will be more able to fall asleep. But even if you don't, doing something else might be more "restful" than laying in bed wide awake and worrying about it. Of course this advice isn't necessarily the best thing to do if you have insomnia on a regular basis, but if it really just is this one night, you should be fine. Good luck with your big day tomorrow.

i cant sleep either, like right now for example. but when i am at home, i usually listen to really soft, quiet music, like music they play when your doing yoga? i downloaded a few songs, made a playlist, and i just put my iPod on shuffle and just lay on my bed, shut my eyes and get really into the song.

ORRR i do 100 crunches, wears me out, and exersices me at the same time :)

Yogic Breathing Exercises helps to relieve the tensions and depression which are one of the important causes of Insomnia. Or you can take 1 tsp of Kava Kava extract before going to bed.The symptoms of Insomnia are resolved in a week.
