Occupational therapy question...?!

Question: My girlfriend is seriously thinking about a career change and is going over all of the classes that she will have to take to become an occupational therapist. As she was going over the medical classes last night, I kind of freaked her out without meaning to by asking if she would have to work with a cadaver. Does anyone know if she will actually have to do that?

We did use cadavers when I was in school - I graduated in 1999. Not only did we have to cut open and dissect a cadaver, we had body parts - forearm, shoulder girdle, leg, etc to dissect and then were tested on it. I was not the skittish type about it, but several members of my study group were. Initially, the professors took us in the room and just showed the class the arm. That was probably the hardest part for the people who weren't very comfortable. During the time with the body, the head was covered - that makes it easier so you won't get "too involved." I don't know if all schools do it - but it is so much more helpful then books! Let her know, that if she does it, there will be many others who don't want to do it either and she won't be alone.
Good luck!

Highly unlikely in UK. Am donating my body to medical research and discussed in great detail with my GP several years ago - he advised me that trainee doctors are no longer taught using cadavers and this was confirmed by University Dept of Anatomy - at least 5 years ago.
