Are there any OTC remedys for ear swelling other than ice?!

Question: It depends on what is causing the swelling...

"Swimmers Ear", which is fluid trapped in the ear and causing an infection, can be helped by taking a cap full of rubbing alcohol and, while laying on your side, pour it into the ear and letting it sit there for a MIN of 5 min's... But the longer the better. (You can get swimmers ear from showers, bath's, anything that lets water get in your ears.)

If you go and read the ingredient lists of all the Swimmer's Ear specific OTC products at the pharmacy you will see that they are usually nothing but rubbing alcohol though some might have a bit of tea tree oil in them.

I have even used Rubbing Alcohol when my CAT got an ear infection. He wasn't HAPPY about it, but it cleared up the infection!

Don't use PURE TEA TREE OIL in there because it will be too strong for your sensative ear skin.

If you put a drop into the cap full of rubbing alcohol it will be diluted enough to not irritate and will work WITH the rubbing alcohol.

I had swimmers ear so bad once that my doctor was shocked that I could stand the pain... If I had waited any longer to go in, I could have had hearing damage in the ear.

Ear infections are NOTHING to laugh at.

If you start to REALLY hurt, stop any and all OTC treatments and just go see a doctor.

They will give you drops to put in that should clear it up.

A MILD case of earinfection CAN be handled at home...

BUT

If it gets bad, it is better to go see a doctor then to take the chance of screwing wiht your hearing...

Ears and Eyes are two things that you shouldn't mess with on your own if things start getting bad.

Ending up deaf or blind because you don't want to spend the cash on a doc when the tide is high MAKES YOU DUMB!

Good luck.

is it due to an infection of the earing? if it is, then there is trea tree oil, that helps, also cleaning it with antibacterial soap and water and also sterile saline solution. If it's not, then u need to see a doctor.

CHEWING GUM..WILL HELP RELIEVE THE PRESSURE

if your ear is swelling thats not a good sign and you probably need to be seen by a doctor before you damage your ear drum and become permanently deaf in that ear..
