Answers: I need to build up my red blood count it is only 6.2 the norm. is 12-16 for females.

First, let me just say that you should never take blood. It is so bad for your body. Now that docotors are starting to realize this they have introduce many new alternatives. Here is a link to some of them:

You just need to find the right doctor who will tell you more about the alternatives. More than 140 hospitals in the U.S. now offer some form of bloodless surgery to all patients.
Here is another link dicussing how safe blood really is: http://www.watchtower.org/e/hb/index.htm...
I hope I've helped in some way.

I think you should have the transfusion if that is what your doc advises. Don't worry; they screen the blood really carefully now and it is very safe.

If there were alternatives people would use them.... There are no 'alernatives' to getting new blood...

im not sure why your blood count is low, but ask your doctor about b 12 shots. i think that helps anemics? i could be completely wrong though so ask.

Iron supplement, also I believe there is a shot you can take to build up your blood. for immediate help you need the transfusion you will feel so much better.

Does your doctor know why your red blood cell count is low? I would think that would be where to start looking for alternatives.

There is a medication called EPO. EPO is designed to stimulate your bone marrow to produce red blood cells at 4x the normal rate.

Who is telling you you have low red blood cell count?

a better diet of fruits vegetables and lean meats and some extra vitamins and minerals and excericising in a normal manner and not for an olympic contest. Get more rest and sleep and this will start to help build it up. Try this way first to see if you can build it up in a natural and healthy way by good diet and plenty of rest and exercise and and vitamins and minerals (not megadoses of vitamins but a few to help)

I think that this should help you start to be able to raise your red blood cell count. It is alwaays better to try the natural method first and then if that odes not work then you can deicde about having the blood transfusuion.

It is better to avoid blood if at all possible considering if it is handled properly and stored properly and if it has been checked for diseases since in the year 2008 there are not as many moral people as there used to be so health can be comprimised in many people. You may try to have a close relative give you a blood transfusion since you will know for sure how their blood quality is as opposed to getting blood from an unknown source.

I wish you the best in your choice.

Buy some beet powder and buy capsules to put the beet powder in them. The woman I study with says it was what she used and her blood cound was great when she went back to doctor right before her surgery. You can usually find this stuff at a health food store. And if they are to exspensive eat alot of red beets. And get as much iron as you can. I hope this helps

EPO is the best, Erithrioypoyitin. Ha is that how it's spelled? The dictionary doesn't even know! IRON suppliments and RED GRAPE JUICE is fantastic. BEANS and GREEN LEAFY VEGETABLES, or any GREEN VEGTABLE. Bronx is right about BEETS. Helps to build the blood. I have cancer and these things TOTALLY have worked for me to build my blood cells when needed. Also the great NUPOGEN shot and NEULASTA shots are the quickest and most fantastic for me I have ever seen. I get Nupogen for 5 days a week after Chemotherapy. It pulls me from 1 up to about 3, sometimes 4.5 if get fortunate, by the time my next Chemo. 6/2 isn't bad unless you are going in for an operation, are you?
If so, call your local HLC and presidine P.O. for help. They will instantly get you started on what you need.

Doctors know the alternatives to blood transfusions. They know that if used, ALTERNATIVES let you heal quicker, it has been proven that patients who do not receive blood transfusions in operations come home 50% quicker in time. come home faster, and reduce the chance of infection. Even in normal process of what is called "good" blood, it is still 20% tainted. I have read articles where even Doctors state they wouldn't want blood transfusions because of the danger of blood today. That they would rather have the alternatives too. It's just that people aren't use to it yet and aren't being educated to it yet. But it's cheaper for the patient, blood is more expensive. So if you pay 80/20 on your insurance, go for the alternative method unless you LIKE paying more money!

A transfusion for simple anemia?
Do you have it from a serious illness? In that case you need it. If not eat foods high in iron and vitamins, like spinach, liverwurst (there is even something called "rotewurst" that has even more iron in it!) Good luck.

Okay I had the exact same problem only I was pregnant at the time. I did not want a transfusion. I drank two tablespoons of liquid chlorophyll a day for about one week. Then I was tested again, my count was better then normal! They said they had never seen that before. No transfusion for me and I had a perfectly healthy baby. Hope that helped and p.s. you can get liquid chlorophyll at the health food store. It tastes bad but I couldn't argue with results! Good luck!
