i think that it gives us a company when we are bored....
There are several psychological and sociological reasons for that:-
1) Man's nature to probe and to know the world around him is insatiable. He is congenitally nosey.
2) He is a social animal. He can never be all alone. If left alone, he would still be wanting to explore the rest of the world and the universe.
We love the unknown!!!
