Can you overdose on a probiotic?!

Question: I was reading there were probiotics with 23-50 billion friendly bacteria so is it better to take more or is too much of a good thing bad for you? Since most in the stores only have about 1-6 billion friendly bacteria.

Yes, you can take too much of a probiotic. In most cases this would result in diarrhea or a lot of gas, but in a person with bowel inertia it could result in more serious complications.

The thing with probiotics is that they are self-replicating if the bowel conditions are right for them, and won't survive if bowel conditions aren't right for them. So how much end up surviving in the GI tract is not necessarily directly proportional to the amount you take.

Most of the time it's appropriate to take a lower dose probiotic (for a person who needs them), and work on making sure diet and bowel movements are conducive to their survival, rather than just cramming higher numbers of them into the system.

Moderation in all things, is a reasonable course. I would say that 23-50 billion are tops.

No you cant. And to be honest probiotics are a waste of money unless you've just come off an antibiotic regime. Your gut already has more than enough bacteria in there, and any extra bacteria in a probiotic will just come out in your poo.

nah i dont think so

Probiotics are good and
Antibiotics are bad for your health. Antibiotic literally means anti life.
To the uneducated one that says probiotics are bad needs to learn before they open their mouth.
Take to many ? like most natural medicines the only passable way to take to many is to stupidly take hands full at a time and even then I don't think it would hurt you . Not at all like antibiotics.
