Answers:
I don't pay attention to the "popular" press, but I have been impressed with the emerging research regarding Vit D!.
I have started to take a Vit D supplement, and believe that the "official" recommendations will soon follow!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Research on Vitamin D has been an ongoing process for years!. A search of Pubmed (limited to the last 10 years) yields 16,466 research papers!

It is the mass media that has shown the 'sudden interest' in this important nutrient!.

The large body of evidence noted above has found that vitamin D deficiency is at epidemic levels - MOST people are deficient!.

Vitamin D deficiency is a critical health issue because adequate blood levels of this vitamin are important for prevention of Osteoporosis, many Cancers, Cardiovascular disease, healthy Immune System function, and prevention of Auto-immune diseases (type I diabetes, multiple sclerosis, etc!.)!.

Finally, the current RDAs are based on old and inadequate information!. Consequently, the RDAs are set too low to maintain health!. Most researchers in this field recommend daily intakes of 1000 to 2000 IU per day!. These levels were once thought to be 'dangerous', but a large body of modern research shows they are safe and necessary for health!.

Best wishes!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

the only natural source for Vit!.D is the sun !. the overuse of suntan lotions IE; on children has caused many to have Vit!.D deficiency!. the Vit!. D in milk doesn't get recognized by the body since it is pasteurized!. supplemental Vit!.D also doesnt get digested so as other types of Vit!. supplements!. in fact they become toxic! peaceWww@Answer-Health@Com

Because we normally don't get enough sunlight (office working, staying indoors all day, etc!.!.)
we should provide our body with a substitute!.!.
Sufficient levels of Vit D is made naturally in our liver when we exposed our skin to direct sunlight (no sunscreen) for as little as 15-20 mins a day!.!.!.!.!.!.!.If you get that amount of direct sunlight a day, one doesn't need to take extra!!Www@Answer-Health@Com
