Hi Tanya!. Ignore the "skeptical doc"!. He doesn't know what he is talking about!. I am a retired Chiropractor and I have helped many patients with hiatal hernias and I have personally been helped with my own hiatal hernia!.

I don't know any docs in the Twin Cities, but you may want to look for doctors trained in either Sacro-Occipital Technique (SOT) or Applied Kinesiology (AK)!.

Best wishes and good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

A hiatal hernia is a weakness where the esophagus passes through the diaphragm on to the stomach!. This is a weakness in the tissues that are allowing this to happen!. There are two types one type the sliding will move in and out so once in a while you will feel better but only temporarily!. The other fixed type is herniated and fixed, this will not move!. I hope a doctor did some imaging to properly diagnose this condition, often a barium swallow x-ray will show it!. A chiropractor can pull down on the stomach, this may pull down the sliding type, but only again for a while!. This will have no effect on the fixed type!. So to answer your question can a Chiropractor help with this the answer is a resounding no!. This is a condition not to mess with as damage to the esophagus will increase the risk of esophageal cancer and this is a very aggressive and dangerous cancer!. This not a chiropractic issue, seek real corrective care!. This care can be meds or often surgery to reduce this hernia as any hernia should be corrected!. To simply state that chiropractic will help is simply irresponsible and certainly wrong!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hiatus hernias are a bulging of the stomach through the diaphragm up into the chest cavity!. They are usually associated with heartburn (acid reflux) and may be a cause of chest discomfort!. There are two kinds!.!.!.sliding, and fixed!.

The sliding ones, guess what, slide up and down!.
The fixed ones!.!.!.surprise!.!.!.don't

No chiropractor ( or anybody else for that matter) can fix them with an "adjustment" !. The sliding ones you can adjust yourself simply by changing your posture, but it isn't permanent!. The fixed ones can only be corrected with surgery, but rarely are!.

EDIT: As always, my answers are factual!. I also give credit when due, and Mr Answerman has given a thorough and factual answer!. I'm glad to see there are some sane chiropracters out there, as the majority of the ones on this board are of the "woo woo" variety!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
