Alternative therapy for lupus?!

Question: Alternative therapy for lupus!?
Know of any non drug therapys for lupus Patients!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Please consider the idea of complementary therapies not alternative therapies!.

Lupus can be a very serious disease!. It can cause permanent damage and it can kill!. It is not "natural" to get lupus and to have your own immune system turn on you!. So, why would it respond to "natural" remedies!? Arsenic and hemlock are natural too, and they can kill you pretty darn fast!

That said, ALWAYS discuss treatment and therapies with your rheumatologist!. What seems harmless to you may actually be harmful!. There are tons of things out there on the net that claim to cure lupus!. Ask for double-blind placebo studies that have been published in peer-reviewed medical journals!. An article on Yahoo about Mona Vie doesn't qualify!. I could post an article on line saying that chocolate cures erectile dysfunction!. That would not make it true!.

Now!.!.!.

Stay out of the sun
Cut out junk food, fast food, and additives
Do not drink diet soda or anything with aspartame
Get exercise-it helps with the pain
Rest often
Learn to manage stress (yoga, meditation, tai chi, chi qong)
Educate yourself about lupus
Comply with your treatment regimen
Don't smoke
Learn to say no to unnecessary drains on your energy
Eat lots of fruits, veggies and whole grains
Don't eat a lot of animal fat or animal flesh in general
Avoid too much white sugar, it causes inflammation which causes pain in lupusWww@Answer-Health@Com

Little is known regarding the influence of herbs, supplements, and diet in lupus!. Here I mention some of the research that has been done thus far and I hope to continue updating this page as more information becomes available!. If you have lupus, please discuss with your doctor before making any drastic chances or additions to your treatment plan!.

Fish Oils -- fish oil supplements improve symptoms of systemic lupus erythematosus!. Also consider eating more fish such as salmon, halibut and sardines (packed in mustard or tomato sauce)!.
Green tea with EGCG - drink a glass a day in the morning
Cordyceps mushroom extract-- see study below
Lipoic Acid is an antioxidant, limit usage to 50 mg two or three times a week!.
DHEA hormone-- this hormone may help but has side effects!. At this point I don't recommend the use of DHEA due to side effects!.

Supplements that may not be helpful for lupus patients
There is very little research regarding supplements or herbs that may have a detrimental effect on lupus symptoms!. However, echinacea and spirulina should be used with caution until more research is available!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The single most important and effective thing I know of is "take aspartame out of your diet completely!."
I've seen other things which work occassionally or make the person better, but that's the only one I know of with a 100% correlation!.
Anyhow, of the things I know of, these are the ones that seem to work the best:
Gerson therapy!.
Doing tai-chi (or another chinese energy exercise like chi gung!.!.!.!.dragon and tiger is probably the best starting point)!. This works, but it requires quite a lot of personal comittment, and finding a qualified teacher (which can be hard)!.
Using DMSO or msm (this is complicated and requires a lot of research on your part since it varies depending on Lupus's pathology)!.

Hope that helps!.
Once again!.!.!.!.Aspartame is key!Www@Answer-Health@Com

The best thing to do when researching therapies for Lupus is to research for your symptom (eg, "muscle pain" or "inflammation")-- you'll get tons more information that way!.

-Fish Oils -- fish oil supplements improve symptoms of systemic lupus erythematosus!. Also consider eating more fish such as salmon, halibut and sardines (packed in mustard or tomato sauce)!. If vegetarian, take flaxseed oil as well as DHA!.
-Green tea with EGCG - drink a glass a day in the morning
-Cordyceps mushroom extract
-Lipoic Acid is an antioxidant, limit usage to 50 mg two or three times a week!.
-DHEA hormone-- this hormone may help but has side effects!.
-Ginger and Bromelain (pineapple) for inflammation
-Serrapeptase for inflammation
-Proteolytic enzymes are powerful anti-inflammatory and antiviral agents!.
-Glucosamine with MSN and Chondriatin for joints
-Zinc for immune system
-Garlic for immune system
-Probiotic drinks for intestinal and immune health
-Vitamin D may help with aches and pains!. Don't overdue it-stick with 400-800 mg/day
-Co-Q10
-Calcium and Magnesium is necessary for pH balance and for protection against bone loss due to arthritis!.
-L-Cysteine and L-methionine assist in cellular protection and preservation; important in skin formation and white blood cell activity!.

Diet may help alleviate the symptoms!. As with other inflammatory disorders, the type of fats consumed is crucial!. As a general rule one should avoid animal fats and omega 6 type polyunsaturated oils e!.g!. safflower, corn and sunflower seed oils which promote inflammation in the body!. The intake of omega 3 fats in the form of oily fish (salmon, mackeral and sardines), flaxseed or a good quality supplement should be increased!. Many sufferers have intolerances to certain foods and it is important that these are identified and eliminated from the diet!. It is important to drink plenty of water (1 1/2 - 2 litres daily ) to flush toxins from the body, particularly if the kidneys are involved!. Alfalfa should be avoided in this condition as it contains L-canavanine which can trigger an autoimmune response in susceptible individuals!.

Substances that may aggravate lupus include excess calories, excess protein, high fat (especially saturated and omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids), and iron!. Some people with lupus placed on a food allergy elimination diet report improvement in their lupus symptoms; however, this may be related to a decrease of other substances in the diet!. Eat more fish and vegetables while reducing sugar and sweets!.

Make sure to exercise, even when not feeling up to it!. Just don't push yourself!. Pace yourself and keep with an exercise plan (like 20 min!. stationary bike 3-5 times a week)!.

Also, please make sure to check all interactions with your doctor and on the internet before taking any of these!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
