Hi there!

Below is a link of the database for the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork!. You may search by ZIP code!.

The NCBTMB certification is accepted or even required by the majority of states!. Certified MTs train for 500+ hours of training at accredited (reputable) schools and take continuing education to learn new massage skills!.

According to your profile information, you're living in a state does not have a massage licensing board (California); instead, counties and cities regulate massage therapy at the local level!.

You'll need to ask any MT you contact if they have been investigated for any reason related to massage or business, and if they are in compliance with all regulations!. It is not rude to ask them to show you their license, certificate, insurance, and other documents they claim to possess!.

Since each massage therapist is different, you'll need to communicate your massage goals to them as clearly as possible!. If you are fairly healthy, a one-hour Western/Swedish massage is a great "first time" session!.

Best of luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Reputable doesn't necessarily mean that they will meet your needs!.

If you are in the US, most states people doing massage need to be licensed!. There are still about 8 states that are not licensed!.

Start with getting referrals from friends, your doctor or someone you trust!. Know that just because you get a massage from one person and it doesn't help your situation that it doesn't mean that massage doesn't work!. Finding a massage therapist is more about finding 'a person' who does massage that meets your needs!. You may have to try a few to see what you like and need!. Once you find one, getting regular massage can be very beneficial to your over all health and happiness!.

There are also a few professional massage associations in the US and in other countries that you can at least get a list of a few who are in your area!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I agree with Tracey that word of mouth is a great way to go!.

I'm not sure where you're from, although there are a couple of things to keep in mind!. If you're from the US, then if you are looking someone up in the phone book (my least favorite way to find one!), make sure they have "LMT", or Licensed Massage Therapist, after their name!. Each state and, in some cases, cities, have their own licensing standards that are pretty rigorous!. I cannot vouch for massage in all states, although in some states, accepting money for massage if you are not licensed is the equivalent of "prostitution" (due to the stigma of what massage used to be and old laws that have not been revised), and is punishable as a misdemeanor!.
If you are from the US, as one option you can check out www!.ucmt!.com !. This is one of the two top accredited schools for massage in the US, and they tend to keep a running track of many of their graduates in many different states!. I was a graduate of one of their sister campuses, although now living in NZ!.
I hope this helps! :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hope this helps a little!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Massage is a dance with fingers!. For general massage you don't need a truly professional, but good fingers!. On your way to find someone reputable you'll taste many zeros!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
