Cold sores are a virus and will remain in your body until you die meaning you will always be at risk for getting a cold sore and no medicine can get rid of the virus permanently!. They are often caused by stress, sickness like the flu, and too much exposure to the sun!. Many cold sore medicines vary with each person and there are many treatments you can use!. Here are some tips:
1) Putting petroleum jelly on the sore can protect it from germs on the outside and keep it clean, however it does not faster the healing process!.
2) Vitamins such as B12 and C can help prevent cold sores from forming!.
3) Cold sores can die quicker when they are dried up!. My friend has a trick where she puts deodorant on the sore!. Though it is best to use scentless otherwise you can smell it really strong and after a while you can taste the deodorant!.
3) This January i had the flu and two really big, bad cold sores!. I used Abreva and it got rid of the sores within a week!. normally for smaller cold sores if you use Abreva they will go away within a few days!. It is best to put Abreva on during the first signs of a cold sore: tingling, itching, burning etc!.
4) If all else fails go to your doctor and let them know about the sores!. If you are getting them constantly, your doctor should give you a prescription that will hault the virus for a few months and heal the cold sore(s)!.
In the mean time (in between cold sores and during) always remember to put on skin protective chapstick, take vitamins B12 and C, eat healthy, try and avoid stressful situations and find things you can do to relieve the stress, and never share a drink or kiss any one who has a cold sore or if you have a cold sore!. lemon balm works really well!.You can either use a lemon balm cream(make sure the cream has at least 1 percent lemon balm extract) ,you can make a compress or poultice using fresh lemon balm or dried lemon balm(3 to 4 times a day),or use lemon balm essential directly to the lesions 3 to 5 times a day!.

Okat this sounds wierd, but i do this and i know people who do this!. Get a clove of garlic,peel back the skin of the garlic clove and rub the garlic on your cole sore!. do this a few times a day!. It will burn!. It dries the colesore out!. If you do this before the cole sore emerges, then usually in a matter of hours the sore will go away!. if it already has emerged, then the garlic method will take one to two days!. Dont use carmax!.!.!.!.it doesnt work!. The reason is because carmax moisturizes your cole sore, not cure it or make it go away!. And abreva doesnt work for everyone!. another method is before you go to bed put a little toothpaste on your sore and go to bed!. IN the morning wash it off!. This also dries up the cole sore!. But the garlic remedy is more potent and works faster!. I have told many people about the garlic remedy and many have tried it with fast results!. Your sore will dry up and scab!. Honestly, I put nail polish remover with acetone (spelling) on my cold sores at the first sign of them and do it every 8-12hrs for 3days or so!. It really works well for me!. I have tried every medication and over the counter treatment but nail polish remover works the best!. I was given this advice from a parent where I teach and it sounded insane but really worked!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
"Carmex" has REALLY helped me out!. If you are barely feeling it, then you can actually stop it from coming out with carmex!. If it's already out, I have seen it make a difference from one day to the next!. They sell it at walmart, walgreens, where the chapsticks are :)Www@Answer-Health@Com
