Hi Mandy,

Yes, you can take iron and it will help especially if you start to feel tired or light headed during or after your period!. Your blood cells need iron - oxygen attaches to the hemes within the red blood cell - so that your body gets sufficient oxygen pumped through your body with the blood!.

When you menstruate you lose iron!. Supplements help to restore what was lost!. Your other option is eating red meat!. It helps to restore iron as well!.

You will have to experiment to see what works best for you!. Follow the recommended dosage on the bottle during and immediately after your period!. I doubt you will need to take them beyond that!. As far as going to the doctor - it seems like an unnecessary trip to me!. You are the expert of how you feel!. Learn to trust yourself first!.

I hope this helped!.

Unless you have any other medical problems, you can take an iron supplement daily !. I prefer "Slow Fe" !. It is time released , so it doesn't upset my stomach !.

If your diet is healthy, you will already be getting iron in your diet by consuming dark leafy green vegetables like broccoli and spinach!. Liver is also another good source of iron!. Taking a supplement once a day shouldn't be a problem!. Read the directions on the back of the package and do NOT take more than the recommended amount!.

If you have any other questions and/or concerns, please contact your physician!. He/she will be more aware of any physical conditions that you have!.

Hope this helps!.
