Please ignore sj's answer, its completely wrong!. When nerve endings have been smashed (implying destroyed or damaged) by trauma this is usually quite severe and not like what you describe at all!.

The spinal cord runs from the brain stem through the spinal canal in the middle of the spinal vertebrae!. Nerves branch out from the cord and exit the spine via the foramina between the vertebrae, these are called nerve roots!. These bundle together through the tissues and go on to become peripheral nerves!.
These nerve roots or peripheral nerves can get squashed or 'pinched' and this is more correctly called an impingement!.
Impingments are are most often caused by the muscles around the spinal vertebrae being too tight making the foramina smaller, or tight muscles squeezing the peripheral nerve!.
This affects its function and can cause pins and needles and tingling!.
if it comes and goes it is unlikely to cause you permanent damage but it may become very annoying and stop you sleeping!.
If you start to lose power and the symptoms are constant you really should get it seen too!.
An Osteopath Chiropractor or Physical therapist should be able to treat you for this problem and would be my first choice instead of a GP!.
Of either all will be suitably trained to Neuro screen you and identify the unlikely possibility you need a Neuro referal!.

Perhaps it isn't that they don't care, but rather because you are a bit hysterical about it!. While I empathize with you because I know it can be quite painful, you aren't going to become paralyzed!. A pinched nerve is just pressure on the nerve from swelling around the nerve pathway!. Cold compresses and anti inflammatories (aspirin, advil) can help, but joint manipulation and physical therapy can improve it faster!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

I agree with Lightening!. Ignore sj's answer, he obviously has no understanding of what he is talking about and even less intelligence to say what he did!.

I would just go one step further on what lightening suggested, and that is to look for a physio who can perform kinesiology as this will help to realign your muscular skeletal system and will help to put your body in balance with itself!. As such this could help in preventing the trapped nerve from occurring again!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Its when the nerve endings get smashed due to trauma!.
Nothing to worry about unless it stays asleep for a long period of time!.

You can eventually damage the endings to where you will have no feeling there, but this is from repeated damage!.

Depending on how long you've had this you sound fine!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
