Melatonin is a substance your body makes during the night hours (has to do with the reduced light as a clue) it makes you sleep well!. People taking it when travelling to get over jetlag!. While I do not think anything should be given to a 6 months old, this is probably the least harmful!. We do not have it here in Australia in regular form, only in homeopathic form, that I would say pretty harmless!. However, get them try chamomile tea and lavander oil in the bath water first, that should knock the little one out!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

It's YOUR baby!. You and you alone decide what gets given to that child!. If you do not know what melatonin is, don't give it to the baby and ask your mother in law not to give it to the baby!.

I don't know if melatonin would actually harm a baby, but it's a hormone!. Probably you'd want to be careful with that!. It's not the same as suggesting giving laudanum to a baby, but there might be future consequences from giving a baby medicine that is not strictly necessary!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Melatonin is a chemical produced naturally enough by the body, and is what is partially responsible for making us drowsy and sleepy!. However, there is nothing to support the idea that taking it in supplement form really helps anything!. I certainly wouldn't agree to giving it to a baby of six months!. I wouldn't give it to any child, really!. Grandma seems to have forgotten that babies don't always sleep through the night!. If baby is refluxing, it suggests the feeds are a bit big for his little stomach or he's being put down to sleep in the wrong position, or too soon after eating, and possibly not burping completely first!. You may be able to help the sleeping by adding some rice cereal to the last feed, using some of the formula he would ordinarily drink!. Then she needs to be sure he is completely burped, and keep him in an upright position for at least half an hour or so after he's eaten!. He should also be lying on his side or back, and I am willing to bet she's putting him on his stomach!. That was the old way, and still habit for many grannies!. And it may be he just doesn't have the capacity to sleep through the night just yet- some just don't!. I would draw the line with Grandma giving any kind of herbal/alternative supplements to your baby at this point!. Tell her to walk and rock that baby, and forget the melatonin!. He won't be small that long, and she will get to sleep through the night again in time!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

Your baby does have reflux!. It is very common in infants the esophageal sphincter does not fully develop right away -and there for acid flows up to the esophagus and causes "heart burn" like symptoms- the baby can't tell you that!. they usually give a little antacid like zantac or similar to the babies!. This really helps!.

Melatonin is a natural sleep agent!. It is a relaxer and makes you!. I totally would not give this to the baby!. first it is not FDA approved (meaning not every container you buy has the same dose of medication,) and Secondly, it not indicated for the use in infants!. We have no studies on it as an adult-- there are no safety studies on it in infants!.

Please do not listen to your mother in law- this is your baby!. Listen to your Dr!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

It's a supplement derived from seratonin!.!. It isn't suggest to give to children under the age of 18!. Although there are no known side effects of giving it to children!.!. not enough people take it freely to have an actual study!.

It's basically something you take before bed!. In short it helps you relax naturally!.!.but is in no way a sleeping drug!.

I wouldn't give it to your baby, and as an adult it did not work for me anyway!

Wear your little one out the natural way!. Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

your mother inlaw is a nut job!.!.you dont drug babies!. Melatonin help old people sleep!. Because as you age you lose the melatonin that helps you sleep at night and wake during sunlight!. Its not for children and it causes depression in those who take itWww@Answer-Health@Com

I forgot most but I took it to help me tan (assists the melanin in our skin)
and also to help me sleep years ago!. You need to research or ask Dr!. about using on a baby - I've never heard of it!. Is your MIL sane!?Www@Answer-Health@Com
