Here is are a few excellent jaw relaxation exercises that I have found helpful!. They will help the muscles of the jaw to relax, and are extremely helpful in TMJ cases!.

1!. Tilt your head back slightly, supporting it at the back with your hands!.
Push lower jaw out and up until you feel tension in chin and throat!.
Make 20 little upward thrusts with your jaw!.
Relax!. Repeat three times!.
Drop the jaw!.
Repeat the word 'jaw' pushing the mouth open wider with each repetition!.
Repeat 10 times!.

2!. Find a mirror and stand in front of it!.
Open and close your mouth slowly!.
Keep your head straight!.
If you suffer from TMJ dysfunction, your jaw will open to one side!. Concentrate and focus on opening your mouth straight!.
This will be a bit difficult because muscles on one side of your mouth or jaw are weak and do not function properly!.
Open and close your mouth correctly 10 times, then rest!.
Do this TMJ exercise 3 times (3 sets)!.
Perform 3 sets of these TMJ exercise 3-4 times a day!.
This exercise will help the jaw re-learn to open and close correctly!.

3!. To alleviate muscle pain due to tight jaw muscles, perform the following TMJ exercise: Slowly, open your mouth as wide as you can!. Then slowly close it!.
Next, slowly open your mouth to the right as wide as you can, then slowly close it!.
Lastly, slowly open your mouth to the left as wide as you can, then slowly close it!.
Repeat these stretching exercises at least 3 times a day!.
Perform these until you begin to experience some relief!.

That should be enough to get you started!. I hope they help you! Take care!.

I've had a lot of jaw problems, and I found that for myself there wasn't a lot I could effectively do for myself!. I found a massage therapist that specialized in TMJ (that's the name of the joint and what they refer to it as)
A good Chiropractor can help!. When my necks out my jaw is sore!.

If your bite (your teeth) is out of balance it can cause pain!. If you bite harder on one side than the other you can bite on a popcicle stick on the side you bite lighter on to strengthen that side and relieve some pressure from the side that is biting harder!.

You can put your thumb in your mouth and squeeze/massage the muscle that is in your cheek towards the back of your mouth!. It could be quite painful but you should keep the constant pressure of sqeezing it going until it eases off!. Then you can massage it after!.
