Natural cures for knee aches?!

Question: Natural cures for knee aches!?
I walk about 6-8 miles a day at work and lately my knees have been aching!. I have had my sneakers ( scetchers sport) for only about 3 months so I don't think it's my shoes that are making my knees hurt!. Any suggestions are welcome though!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It sounds like you're putting 30-40 miles on your sneakers per week, possibly more!. So over 3 months (13 weeks), you've put at least 390 miles on your sneakers so far!. Most running shoes need to be replaced once they hit the 400-500 mile range!. I think your current set of sneakers have lost whatever support they initially gave your feet a long time ago!. The first thing you should do is replace your shoes!

If you plan to continue to put that many miles in every week, I strongly suggest that you invest in a better shoe!. I personally like New Balance, but it really doesn't matter what the brand is as long as the shoe is specifically designed for walking/cross training/running!. With a good running/cross training/walking shoe, you can also replace the temporary insole (which is only good for the first 50 miles or so before they lose their support) with a Spenco insole!. The Spenco walker/runner insoles make a huge difference in the amount of cushioning and shock absorption for your feet!.

Outside of getting better shoes, I'd look at your walking style!. Depending on where your knee aches, you may be overpronating or just "foot striking" in a funny way!. In southern California, there's a place called The Running Lab in Orange County where you can get your running/walking evaluated to determine the best shoe for you!. The cost to get evaluated is well worth the benefit of being able to walk (or train) as much as you want with a lot less discomfort!.

Getting a better shoe should resolve your knee aches quite a bit!. You might still get them, but they should not be as bad!. If you get fitted for a shoe based on your walking/running style, then your knee aches should be completely resolved!.

I am pretty confident that with a set of new shoes your knee aches should go away!. But if by some chance that your knee aches persist, it's possible that you may have injured your knees walking on old worn out shoes!. If that is the case, see if taking a break and allowing your body to heal up and recover will do the trick!. If not, you can always try acupuncture to stimulate the healing!.

While it could possibly be your shoes as others have suggested, it is also possible that you could be suffering from poor posture as a result of having an upper cervical misalignment!.

An easy way to check is to really take a close look at yourself in a full length mirror!. Take a really close look at your shoulders - are they level with each other!? Is your head level or is it tilted off to one side!? Do the bridge of your nose (between your eyes) and your chin line up with your episternal notch (the dip in your breastbone between your collarbones)!? Are the tops of your hips level and even!? All of these are common symptoms of compensations for a misalignment of the upper neck!.

The body is designed to stand in a balanced and level posture - deviations from the vertical and horizontal planes of the body are good indicators that you have a misalignment between your head and neck resulting in a compensated posture which causes portions of your body to carry higher loads than normal and also alters the way in which the stresses act on the joints - thus could cause your knee pain!.

It's one possibility anyway, and I hope I helped!. If you DO think that you have an upper cervical misalignment, I'd suggest looking for a chiropractor near you who is trained to fix it at the website www!.nucca!.orgWww@Answer-Health@Com

I recommend that you see a doctor for a thorough examination!. Very hard to diagnose your specific problem with what you have provided here!. Ibuprufen or other pain killers may help in the interim!.

Glucosamine and chondroitin are unlikely to be of any help with your problem, but you could try them for a while and see how they go!.
