Folks here have already given you some excellent dietary modification and lifestyle modification advice!. So I'll just add in my additional two cents!. You might want to try soomething calle De-glycerizzed Licorice [I never could spell it!.!.!.!.]

(aka DGL licorice)

Here is a link explaining how it works (short story, helps slow acid production, helps stomach lining repair)

http://books!.google!.com/books!?id=kGf8Dhz!.!.!.

http://www!.puritan!.com/herb-products-a-t!.!.!.
This is the cheapest place I know to get it!.

You will also want to try aloe juice - helps the gastrointestinal tract repair itself!. Also, if you are not a vegetarian, cod liver oil (more specifically the vitamins A and D in it) help fast reproducing cells (like those from your mouth to your other end) repair themselves (long explaination there, and its its very late here)

People "get" GERD by eating foods that are wrong for their body!. Every time you "occasionally" got acid reflux, it was because something you ate was too strong for you digestive system, causing acid buildup which then, over time, destroyed the sensitive lining of your esophagus and stomach, leaving exposed nerve endings and (basically) open sores!. So, now, every time you eat, you feel the effects of the past damage you have done to yourself!. And it is only worse if you failed to change your diet!.

People also get GERD by taking too many medicines, often from a having a poor lifestyle for a long time!.

As an herbalist, I would offer this bit of advice (since you asked): until you change your diet and quit harming yourself, no herbal remedy will NOT work for you!. After you have eliminated the foods that cause you harm, there are plenty of herbs that can help the healing process, but as long as you are still causing damage, it is a waste of your time and money to do the natural alternative thing!.

Smoking (including chew), drinking, dairy products, overly processed foods, pickles, spicy/hot foods, gum chewing, breath mints should all be avoided because right now, you will not be able to tell what you should not be eating since everything is going to hurt!. While you go without these foods for at least a month, have chamomile tea, plain, lightly seasoned foods, like with maybe just a dash of salt (no margarine, though)!. Once you have went a whole month without symptoms, you can drink peppermint tea (make sure it is real peppermint leaves, and not "naturally flavored") after each meal to help aid digestion!. Also, right now, avoid heavy vitamin therapy as this is just too hard on the stomach also!. This includes calcium pills!. You can eat a lot of organic yogurt (only dairy that is suggested during this healing period) and bananas instead!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have to say google the acid/alkaline diet!. There's lots of good information there to help with your symptoms!. I have GERD as well!. You can feel much better following an alkaline diet!. Put a little lemon juice in your water!. Don't drink sodas or coffee!. Try to eat only fruit, vegetables, whole grains, soy, honey and yogurt ,just to name a few!.
At least in the beginning!. Stay away from meat, dairy, pastas, milk, tea, eggs, sugar, oatmeal, noodles, beans, alcohol!. The list is long of foods that are acidic in your system!. Once you begin to feel better you can add some of the regular foods back to your diet!. I have done this!. But I still have to add lemon juice to my water as plain water is rather acid in your system!. I hope this helped you some!. Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i take Ranitidine!. it's a generic form of Zantac!. it is excellent for treating GERD and a lot cheaper than the name brand stuff!. don't eat spicy, acidic, or foods that are known to cause a lot of gas!. sodas and anything else with caffeine in it are triggers too!. try eating a bland diet for awhile and remain upright for at least 30 minutes after meals!. i hope that this helps you, it has done wonders for me!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have heard wonderful things about Ranitidine!. Seriously look into it!. You poor thing, I can't imagine how that feels!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
