Melatonin is a hormone that occurs naturally in your body and when taken supplementally, it helps to support Serotonin levels!. Serotonin is the hormone that controls your sleeping and waking cycles (as well as mood), so many people take smaller doses to help them sleep!.

The only side effects from it are the same as sleeping pills (may promote drowsiness, not to be used by pregnant/nursing women, etc), but it also has the warning not to use it if you have an autoimmune condition, depressive disorder, or if you are under 16 years old!.
The sleeping part is obvious, but the rest of those are specific to the fact that it's a hormone (the 16 year old part and could have an interaction with autoimmune disorders) and that it affects Serotonin (the depression part because it affects the mood)!.

Melatonin is not recommended to reduce weight, nor would it directly impact that!. Some people may get a boost in mood and/or better sleep that could help them lose weight indirectly, but it doesn't impact the weight directly!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
