Here's an answer I gave recently on this very topic:
You can stand one of those things in a candlestick holder and let it burn!. Cut it up and what do you see!? A lot of brown gooey wax that strangely resembles ear wax!. The real stuff in your ear can't be extracted by a candle but your ear can get burnt by melted candle wax!.

I heard it's BS, and I really wouldn't advise DIYing as you could end up with damaged ear drums if something goes wrong!. No fun I know!.!.!.you could try murine ear drops if you want to clean them, it's a lot safer and easier to find!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
