Something safe for constipation?!

Question: Something safe for constipation!?
What can I give my teenager/young adult children who suffer from constipation that is safe and natural!? I don't care for laxatives and besides they give me severe cramps!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
You can try a stool softener like Colace!. My husband was told to take that when he had back surgery because the pain medication causes constipation, and they didn't want him straining at all!. Since it simply softens stools, it doesn't cause gas--it just makes it easier to go to the bathroom!.

You can also try making sure they get more fiber in their diet!. You can give them fiber supplements (I like Benefiber chewables), or really push the fruits, veggies, and whole grains!. It is really hard to get the recommended amount of daily fiber just from eating things, however!.

One of the easiest (for me, at least) ways to get extra fiber is to eat Quaker's Oatmeal!. I like the flavored kind in the little packets, and I eat two of them at a time, which gives me about 25% of my daily fiber needs!. It's naturally low in fat, even with the added flavorings, as long as you make it with low-fat or skim milk (I don't like it with water), and it doesn't have a huge amount of calories!. It's also really wonderful and warm and tasty now that the weather has turned cold!.

The only other thing I know they recommend for constipation is to push fluids!. Juices or other fluids don't have fiber (some juice has a little bit, like orange juice with pulp), but putting a lot more fluid into the digestive tract makes it easier to go to the bathroom, as well!.

Good luck!. Constipation is pretty unpleasant!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

liquorice is a great thing to use and I have sworn by it each pregnancy to get it all going!
Not forgetting wholemeal bread, breakfast cereals with fibre in them, fruit is good but bananas tend to make an issue worse!. Raisins etc!. constipation unless pregnancy related is usually down to an imbalanced diet!.
Speak to your gp about a good healthy balanced diet and it will be back to normal in no time!
Also try weetabix with just kettle boiled water and plenty of sugar,,, works great for my kids!Www@Answer-Health@Com
