In America, there is no governing board or legal certification except that which is required on the local level!. Yes, you can print out your own certificate and frame it, but someone somewhere will want to know more!.
I consider myself an aromatherapist!. I started by taking courses through my local land grant university (Purdue University Extension Office in Indiana) for a Certified Master Gardener!. An aromatherapist must know about plants since that is where the EO's come from!. Then, I purchased numerous books on the subject, learning how to mix and match the scents!. I also have studied extensively on my own about the different medicinal properties of each plant, as this is what aromatherapy is about, just concentrated!. It also helps to have some background in skin pathology as you MUST know how and IF something will react to a person's skin!.
You can search for a college called Clayton College for one of their courses!. They also have extensive home-study courses, but then you will have a definite certificate that can be verified!.
If you plan on making this an actual business, the CC route is how you want to go as you will have a better chance of insurance liability than if you didn't have any study behind you!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

Find a web site that allows you to place your name on an official looking certificate!. Print it and display it and call yourself an aroma therapist!. That's all there is to it!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
