it's a twisted term of the afgan "chillum" which is a pottery cone used to smoke hashish !. it is held between the fingers of both hands which are cupped(hoot owl style)!.the "cone" is sealed in the hands with a damp rag , inhale at the thumbs!.!.so yeah it's a bowl!.!.!.one of mans first portable bongs!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
