Question: What are some good homemade and effective sore throat remedies!?
i have a really sore throat, and i know i am sick!. i dont have any cough drops, so i was wondering what were some good remidies i could make!. there is the hot lemon and honey drink, and i am drinking that right nw, but it hurts to swallow!. help!Www@Answer-Health@Com

make some warm tea!. not super hot!. i usually just heat the water until the first signs of steam!. you can add some lemon to that, but i think just hot tea with a little milk & sugar works well for me!.

you can also try orange juice!. if i drink that it usually burns at first, but it helps afterwards!. it almost feels as tho it adds a coating to my throat!.

any hard candy in general would work!. cough drops really work in respect to the fact they are constintly lubricating your throat (yeah, menthol does help too, but not all have that)!. so get yourself a lollypop or jolly rancher, something like that and suck away!.

if you have tylenol, you can always take that, its a pain reliever!.!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

there are some herbs I myself have tried and worked , red raspberry not the tea that turns red but the raspberry tea leaves, slippery elm bark which is very nasty but very effective and licorice bark which is very sweet!. go to a natural food store in your area and investigate!. I know that theses herbs are hard to find!. It will take some time but you may seem some improvement the next day hopefully!. I would take both something called cepacol tablets ( I know they aren't natural ) for sore throat and the tea both if possible!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

My grandma ALWAYS made this for me!. Go the store and buy 1 big chunk of ginger!. Make sure it is really firm, no soft or bruised spots!. You don't have to peel it!. Just chop it into slices (like 1/4inch thick)!. Put it in a small pot with a can of coke or pepsi (cola works best) and a spoon full of sugar!. Heat this on low (it will simmer just a little) until it gets to be kind of like a syrup!. You can start it on like med-high heat, just remember to turn it down! It should take like 30-45mins!. If you want it thicker then heat it longer with a little more sugar!. When it is ready just pour the liquid (take out the chunks) in a small jar or other glass container and store it in the fridge!. Every time you cough or throat hurts, take a good sip!. Even if you don't have a cough, just keep sipping on it throughout the day!. You can't overdose so drink up! It doesn't taste GREAT but its really not that bad!. You should feel better and cold and fever should be gone in a couple days at MOST! Ginger really boosts the immune system!. What really helps me is a hot cup of tea (any kind of tea) with lots of Honey and Lots of Lemon! Stir and drink!. It'll make you feel better as soon as you're done but you'll have to do that every morning or every night untill it's gone!. Good Luck, I hate having a sore throat!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm a pharmacist and an expert in alternative medicines!.!.!.so I think I can help!. First of all, there is no cure!.

Remember, your body is under stress!. The first thing you need to do is not add any stress so, if you can, get rest!.

Secondly, as long as your doctor is OK with it and you don't have any allergies or other medical conditions, I would immediately start dosing with proven immune boosters!.

A few good ones are:

1!. Vitamin C: I dose with 2,000mg daily as a preventative!. When you are feeling ill you can dose with this much every hour until you experience gas or even loose stools!. I know that sounds a little gross, but it really is true!. There are reams of evidence to support this vitamins use but only when you take enough!.

One point: it will not make you instantly better at this point!. It will likely shorten the duration of the sickness!.

2!. Garlic: I don't know if your sickness is viral or bacterial (likely viral)!. Garlic is an extremely effective antibacterial!. If you can't tolerate raw bacteria you can substitute with an allicin (the active ingredient in garlic) supplement!.

3!. Avoid all processed sugars: Just two cans of soda can lower the fighting capability of your white blood cells by 40%!. Remember, bacteria and viruses need sugar for energy!. Cut off the energy supply and they will die!.

4!. Did I mention get rest!? Seriously, get some sleep - as much as you can!.

Are there other things you can do!? Absolutely!. The answers about using hot water and gargling with salt water are good starts!.

After this passes keep up the recommendations above!. Also, if you are around anyone sick remember to try to avoid putting your hands in your mouth, ears and eyes as this is how a lot of bugs are transmitted!.

There are other supplements you could take but this will be a good start!.

I realize this is a short answer but I hope it helps!. Overall, your best healer is your body if you are taking care of it!. Everyones bodies are bombarded with bugs everyday!. Normally our immune systems can fight them off!. When we are run down - we can't and that's when sickness sets in!.
