Omega 3 capsules for 2 year old?!
Question: Omega 3 capsules for 2 year old!?
I want to start giving my 2!.5 year old omega 3 fish oil capsules to help with his development!. He has delays in speech and motor skills!. He has symptoms of dyspraxia!.
The books that I have say to start with a dose higher than the one recommended on the bottle, stay there for 6 months and then go back down to the dose on the bottle for a maintenance dose!. So the ones I have are 250mg Fish Oil (10% EPA: 40% DHA) It says Children 1-18 years 2 capsules daily!. Would it be safe/effective to give him 4 capsules/day for a while until we see results!? Is it possible to overdose on these!?
My family Dr!. doesn't believe in herbal medicine so he hasn't been much help!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I can tell you've been doing a lot of reading, good for you! There have been studies looking at the brains of autistic (& related disordered) children and how "inflamed" they are!. There's evidence that their brains are in an "over firing" state, due to the inflammation, but they have not correlated it specifically to any one thing!. There are environmental factors, possibly vaccines, etc!. Lots of theories!. I'm not familiar with dyspraxia, but omegas can't hurt, and can only help!.
I totally agree that the omega 3s are fantastic for any child's developing brain and there are studies that have looked at the omega 3s effect on hyperactivity and other behavior!. You probably know this since you're asking the question!. Very promising!. I give my 4 year old an anti-inflammatory (omega3) and antioxidant combo, just for brain development alone!.
I take Moxxor, and I have dosing information for children for that, but not the fish oil capsules!. Moxxor is made from the green lipped mussel, which a superior form of omega3s as well!.
