How can I stop an asthma attack without prescription medications?!

Question: How can I stop an asthma attack without prescription medications!?
I normally take magnesium every time I have an attack!. It stops it within 30 minutes!. I refuse to use rescue inhalers after it gave me a really fast heart rate!. Plus, the more I use it, the worse I seem to get!. I can't take homeopathic because of the lactose!. No drugstore inhaler's because of the alcohol!. I also can't use the scented oils due to fragrances triggering asthma!.

It kept me up all night feeling like I was breathing through a straw!. It also seems like I have excess mucus deep in my lungs!.

What can I use as a back-up (besides magnesium)!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Here are some herbs that may help w/ asthma and/or lung congestion!.

2 teaspoons tincture of mullein leaf
1 teaspoon each tinctures of chamomile flower & elecampane root
1/2 teaspoon each tinctures of thyme leaf & Goldenseal root (or Barberry root or Oregon Grape root)

Combine ingredients; take 1/2 to 1 tsp 3 to 5 times daily, as needed!. Put in juice or follow immediately with flavored drink!. This tincture is quite bitter!.

Breathe-Easy Tea

4 cups boiling water
1 teaspoon each Chamomile flower, Echinacea root, Mullein leaf &
Passionflower leaf
1/2 teaspoon each Elecampane root & Lemon Verbena leaf (if available)
1 1/2 green Stevia leaf powder (for sweetening)

Pour boiling water over herbs in saucepan and steep for 10 to 15 minutes!. Strain out herbs!. For 150 lb!. adult, give 1 to 1-1/2 cups daily as a preventative for asthma attacks!.

Ginkgo Throat Spray

1 teaspoon tincture of Ginkgo leaf
5 drops Chamomile essential oil (optional)
1/4 cup water

Combine ingredients and store mixture in a sprayer bottle!. Shake well before using!. Use as needed to keep airways clear!.

All these recipes came from the book Herbs for Health and Healing by Kathi Keville!. I shared them with several customers at my herb shop & at least one was able to get off her inhaler by using these!. She especially liked the throat spray and used it "like an inhaler!." However, as I cautioned her, she continued to carry the inhaler for emergencies!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Many of the answers below could actually WORSEN your asthma, such as a humidifier, if your asthma is triggered by HUMIDITY, which many people have! Don't try these until you find out what your "triggers" are!

For the time being, until you get yourself to a GOOD PULMONOLOGIST, try exhaling as completely as you can!. This expels the "stale" air, with little or no oxygen in it!. It may seem weird, to blow air OUT, since your instinct is to gulp it in!.!.!.but it does work (I have asthma and have used this, w/success)!.

Then, inhale, slowly and steadily, trying to calm yourself while doing so!.

The best prevention for asthma is to avoid things that trigger it, but it may not be possible in all cases!.

The next best thing is to get a full evaluation, with your primary care doctor and a specialist!. There are many PREVENTIVE meds (including inhalers) that can reduce your need for a "rescue" inhaler drastically!

Some preventive meds, are steroidal, like "Azmacort", and others are non-steroidal, but reduce inflammation or even prevent it, such as "Intal"!. You can even take a drug like "Accolate", by mouth, to reduce the frequency of attacks!.

Most docs WILL, however, recommend a "Rescue" (albuterol) inhaler, for sudden attacks!.

See a doctor ASAP, since asthma attacks CAN be fatal if not treated immediately! I know two people who died from it, with very little warning!.

You really can't play around with this, such as trying to use "mind control" or herbal meds!. Check out the site below, for useful info about the disease and treatment options!.

Good luck!
