Question: Do you know of a cure for snoring!? !?
My husband has been snoring so loud lately that I really can not sleep next to him until I am completely exhausted!. Please advise!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
snoring is a symptom!. Generally snoring is associated with sleep apnea or stopping breathing!. Take your husband to the doctor and demand a sleep study!. You will be saving his life and getting a more restful sleep!.

I know 32 year old died in his sleep!. His wife went to sleep in another room because the snoring got so bad, she heard it stop for a while and went back to bed and he was dead!. She was a widow with two small kids!. she wishes she would have taken my advice

I use to snore as well!.

Sleep apnea is a disorder characterized by a reduction or cessation (pause of breathing, airflow) during sleep!.

An apnea is a period of time during which breathing stops or is markedly reduced!. In simplified terms, an apnea occurs when a person stops breathing for 10 seconds or more!.
Apneas usually occur during sleep!. When an apnea occurs, sleep is disrupted!. Sometimes this means the person wakes up completely, but sometimes this can mean the person comes out of a deep level of sleep and into a more shallow level of sleep!.

Other symptoms included

Abnormal daytime sleepiness, including falling asleep at inappropriate times
Awakening unrefreshed in the morning
Depression (possibly)
Episodes of no breathing (apnea)
Lethargy
Loud snoring
Memory difficulties
Morning headaches
Personality changes
Poor concentration
Restless sleep

Consequences of untreated sleep apnea

pulmonary hypertension
right-sided heart failure or cor pulmonal

Abnormal heart rhythm (arrhythmia)
Excessive carbon dioxide levels in the blood
Heart disease
High blood pressure
Sleep deprivation
Stroke
Memory loss
traffic accidents
morning headaches
CO2 retention
metabolic disoder
Feeling of ADD
weight gain
There is a high correlation with diabetes anCOPD as well!.

FYI-nasal strips and OTC treatments do no treat SA!. They only hide the symptoms!. I wish someone would have pushed me into the test and the treatment!.

Treatment of SA is generally CPAP (or other positive airway pressures!.) If the obstruction is well known, surgery may help but the outcomes have been poor!. (SA in kids is well treated with a TA removal) Oxygen does not work because the oxygen is bloocked!. IF the sleep apnea only occurs on the back, the tennis ball methodmay work!. For some individuals a dental device works!. Weight loss in some people works!. Thin people get SA too!. I lost over a 100 pounds and my sleep apnea has not improved!. These are the treatment!. The only cure is a tracheostomy but who wants a hole in their throat and all the problems that causes!.

Because sleep apnea so often includes noisy snoring, the condition can also adversely affect the sleep quality of a patient's bed partner!. Spouses or partners may also suffer from sleeplessness and fatigue!. In some cases, the snoring can disrupt relationships!. Diagnosis and treatment of sleep apnea in the patient can help eliminate these problems!. (http://www!.umm!.edu/patiented/articles/ho!.!.!.
